Job Summary: This position involves operating assigned vehicles in a safe, reliable and professional manner, while being courteous, patient and helpful to all passengers.
Qualified candidates with customer service skills will receive paid training to acquire Commercial Driver’s License (CDL – Class B with P2 endorsement) if they do not already possess one.
This is a three-quarter time position.
Experience, Knowledge, Skills: Current possession of or ability to acquire CDL with Class B-P2 endorsements; Paid CDL training and testing provided to qualified candidates who do not possess a current CDL Class B-P2; Excellent driving record; Ability to assist passengers in wheelchairs in getting on and off vehicles; Ability and experience in working effectively with the public; 19 years of age or older; Knowledge of and ability to read gauges, operate controls, pedals, levers, and switches found on buses and vans; Previous customer service or driving experience desirable.
Essential Functions: Work evenings, weekends, holidays, and split shifts; Safely drive and operate buses and vans; Ability to assist passengers in wheelchairs in getting on and off vehicles; Follow instructions both orally and in writing; complete daily forms; Perform routine custodial maintenance of bus shelters; Work both independently and with others; Continued employment will be contingent upon successful completion of 16 hours of CDL specific training and obtaining a CDL Class B-P2 license following completion of the training.
Working Environment: Work primarily performed inside buses or vans while in operation; Will drive vehicle in all weather conditions; Exposure to seasonal weather conditions when assisting passengers and performing custodial maintenance of bus shelters; Possibility of muscle strains from physically moving passengers on and off buses and vans; Will remain in a sitting position for extended periods of time.
Physical Requirements: Vision enough to perform functions such as operate buses and vans while complying with all traffic regulations; Hearing and speech enough to communicate over the two-way radio to obtain and clarify dispatched information; Strength enough to push, pull and assist non-ambulatory passengers on and off the bus(ability to lift 75 pounds); Manual dexterity enough to coordinate the movement of limbs simultaneously to operate controls, pedals, levers, and switches on buses and vans.
