Automotive Painter

 POSITION SUMMARY The Auto Painter will be responsible for refinishing damaged body parts and bodies of vehicles in accordance with factory and dealership quality specifications and time standards. RESPONSIBILITIES Operate and uses all body shop equipment properly and safely Remove rust from metal, and grease and dirt from work surface Mask and protect parts that are not to be painted or coated Fill cavities and dents with putty to attain smooth surface Mix paint according to specifications Select and mix coating liquid to produce desired color Paint surface using sprayer or brush as appropriate Inspects painted units for quality of workmanship, noting any runs, sags and unpainted areas Maintain tools and keeps equipment clean and in a proper state of repair Keep work area clean Maintain and wear all required safety and health personal protective equipment, including respirator, in the manner recommended by the equipment manufacturer Comply with all laws and regulations pertaining to paint, thinners, and other hazardous materials. Reports any deviations to management Cooperate and assist other personnel in the repair and prepping of vehicles Understand, keep abreast of and complies with federal, state and local regulations that affect body shop operations, such as hazardous waste disposal, OSHA Right-to-Know etc. Other duties as assigned QUALIFICATIONS High School Diploma or equivalent required One-year certificate from college or technical school; or 3-6 months related experience and/or training (or equivalent combination of education and experience) Must have 5 years of work related experience (1 year of technical training may be included) Must have a valid Driver’s License Must have the following Certifications: Painting and Refinishing Certification for Collision Repair I-CAR May require possession of one or more ASE Certifications Painting and Refinishing (ASE B2) preferred Effective oral and written communication skills with all levels of the organization Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage time and multiple priorities to completion Problem solving skills with an analytical thought process Ability to adapt to a rapidly changing environment As required by the County Code Title 2 – Administration, Division 4 – Miscellaneous – Chapter 2.212 (COVID-19 Vaccinations of County Contractor Personnel) adopted by the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors, applicants will need to show proof of full vaccination status, defined as vaccinated two weeks after receiving the requisite number of doses of a COVID-19 vaccine approved or authorized for emergency use by the FDA or that they are exempt from vaccine requirements based on sincerely held religious beliefs or a qualifying medical condition. Business work hours are Monday-Friday from 6:00 am to 2:30 pm, however some extended or weekend hours may be required. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS May be required to lift and carry awkward items weighing up to 75 lbs. Requires intermittent standing, walking, sitting, squatting, stretching, and bending throughout the workday.
