Temporary appointment expires on or before June 30, 2022; may be extended.Essential Functions: Under general supervision, the incumbent performs the full range of clinical athletic training functions, which involves the planning, organization, and delivery of daily athletic training services to students involved in Athletics. The incumbent will: prevent, recognize, and assess athletic injuries; implement preventive and rehabilitation programs to treat athletic injuries using the appropriate therapeutic modalities and treatments; consult with senior athletic trainers, physicians and other health professional on injuries and treatment plans and coordinate with the coaching staff; inform coaching staff and other health professionals on the status of injuries and treatment plans; use a variety of therapeutic modalities in accordance with physician orders to prevent and treat injuries; advise students on how to prevent injuries and maintain their physical condition; regularly evaluate the physical condition of student-athletes; counsel athletes and staff regarding conditioning, athletic training, and rehabilitation; assist in designing conditioning programs to prevent injuries; attend/cover practices and athletic events and provide medical emergency coverage to student-athletes; travel with sport teams to away games as needed; maintain equipment and cleanliness of the athletic training and rehabilitation facilities; maintain appropriate training room records of injuries, treatment plans, and progress; assist in supervising the athletic training facility and the work of student workers/trainers; and provide athletic training services for various camps and clinics.Required Qualifications & Experience: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university in Kinesiology or a related field of study, or a combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge and abilities. Equivalent to two years of experience as a certified Athletic Trainer in a high school or college environment. Incumbent must possess and maintain BOC certification and CPR/AED {cardiopulmonary resuscitation and automated external defibrillation) certification for the Professional Rescuer and first aid. General knowledge of the principles and practices of Athletic Training, including conditioning and injury prevention, as well as injury assessment and rehabilitation; the full range of therapeutic preventions and treatments such as taping, bracing and massage; effective use of rehabilitation and exercise equipment; rules, regulations, and guidelines established by the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) pertaining to student-athletes, their training, sports medicine care, health and safety; Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA) standards for handling Blood Borne Pathogens; maintaining training room records, including Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) standards; and following insurance procedures Incumbent must possess strong interpersonal and communication skills to develop effective working relationships with athletes, coaching staff, parents, physicians, and other health professionals. Must be physically capable and willing to work long hours with possible heavy lifting involved. Ability to: effectively assess and evaluate injuries and their severity; develop conditioning and rehabilitation programs; manage and treat injuries; use the full range of appropriate therapeutic modalities, rehabilitation and exercise equipment to treat and prevent injuries; determine appropriate referrals to other health care professionals; recognize life-threatening situations and administer the appropriate emergency aid; use a computer to perform medical, insurance and recordkeeping functions; and work in an environment with competing priorities. Demonstrated interest and ability to work in a multicultural/multiethnic environment.
