The Boeing Company is looking to hire an Associate Virtualization Engineer to join the virtualization engineering team. This position is generally a remote role that does not require you to be on a work site but there may be a very small amount of onsite work needed at one of these locations, Berkeley, MO, Aurora, CO, Chicago, IL, Colorado Springs, CO, El Segundo, CA, Huntington Beach, CA, Huntsville AL, Long Beach, CA, Mesa AZ, North Charleston, SC, Oklahoma City, OK, Plano TX, Ridley Park, PA, San Antonio, TX, or Seal Beach, CA. The hired employee can live anywhere in the country and is not required to be in a commutable distance to any of these work sites.

This is a growing team of high performing engineers who are working on a capability that is currently only being done at Boeing. The virtualization of hardware to create high fidelity digital twins that are capable of running the same software binary files as physical hardware is changing the way that hardware and software development and test is being done across all commercial, defense, weapons and satellite organization.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Assists with the development, documentation and maintenance of architectures, requirements, algorithms, interfaces and designs for software systems

  • Develops and maintains code and integrates software components into a fully functional software system

  • Assists with test procedures and documenting test results to ensure software system requirements are met

  • Supports software project management and software supplier management functions

  • Selects, tailors and deploys processes and tools; establishes metrics

  • Performs software research and trade studies

  • Troubleshoots software issues

  • Works under general supervision

This position is hybrid. This means that the selected candidate will be required to perform some work onsite at one of the listed location options. This is at the hiring team’s discretion and could potentially change in the future

This position must meet export control compliance requirements. To meet export control compliance requirements, a “U.S. Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. §120.15 is required.  “U.S. Person” includes U.S. Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee. 

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills and Experience)

  • Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry

  • Experience C and C++ coding, debug, and development

  • Experience working in an Agile software development environment

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • BSCE or BSEE with strong software background or BSCS with some hardware background

  • 3+ years’ experience in software programming and/or hardware design/troubleshooting

  • 3+ years’ experience in real-time software development

  • Ability to work across the hardware-software boundary

  • A background in computer architecture and knowledge of computer hardware architecture to the component level

  • Experience with developing software at the hardware/software interface level

  • Experience with different processors including Arm, Power PC and Intel

  • Experience with firmware/hardware development

  • Assembly coding, debug, and development

  • Some background in aircraft avionics

  • Be able to work independently or as part as a team

  • Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously

  • Experience in Git, Jira and in software development in Visual Studio code

  • Hands on experience in Virtualization technologies, e.g. QEMU

  • Experience with  MIL-STD-1553, ARINC-429, and Ethernet communication protocols

Typical Education/Experience:
Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 2 or more years’ related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. Master). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

Relocation:
Relocation assistance is not a negotiable benefit for this position.

Summary pay range: $79,050 – $123,050
