ResponsibilitiesBased in Downtown Los Angeles, Oaktree is seeking an associate to work within the Strategic Credit Group for a 2-year program. This is a sector generalist role with the potential for specialization in the future. The Strategic Credit mandate is highly flexible and, as such, the role will require analysis of a variety of asset classes including, but not limited to, secured debt and equity-linked securities. The Associate will participate in all transaction functions and portfolio management activities:* Analyzing company financial statements;* Developing detailed financial models with projections;* Assessing company capital structures and reviewing related legal documents;* Analyzing company valuations using various macroeconomic and business specific assumptions;* Conducting interviews with industry experts and company management;* Performing qualitative business and industry due diligence;* Assessing strengths and weaknesses of various businesses;* Performing comparable company analyses;* Developing comprehensive investment thesis and memos;* Presenting investment ideas to portfolio management;* Participating in deal structuring, legal documentation and negotiations; and* Monitoring the performance of existing portfolio investments.Qualifications* 2-3 years of experience as an analyst with a top investment bank within merchant banking or leveraged finance.* Outstanding financial modeling and analytical skills.* Demonstrated competency in financial statement analysis, business valuation, accounting and finance.* Experience analyzing fixed income a plus, but not requiredPersonal Attributes* Must have outstanding initiative and be a self-starter* Demonstrate non-linear thinking and have excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills* Ability to prioritize and manage multiple competing tasks* Collaborative, team-oriented, intellectually curious individual with strong sense of integrity and professionalismEducationA Bachelor’s degree with honors from a top university or college is required.Equal Opportunity Employment PolicyOaktree is committed to diversity and to equal opportunity employment.
