Wayfinder Family Services (Wayfinder) is currently seeking Adult Residential Counselors to provide guidance, assistance, and services to students who are blind and visually impaired helping them gain back their Independence. This role oversees, assists, and instructs in the housekeeping of the dormitory and supervises students in residence.

This is a non-exempt, part-time (8 hours/week) position that reports to the Adult Services Residential Supervisor.

The schedules available are:

  • AM shift (8 hours) Saturday: 7:15 am to 3:15 pm
  • Overnight shift Friday: 11:00pm to 7:00am


Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Makes certain all new students are on time for breakfast.
  • Instructs and assists students in the cleaning and maintenance of the residence each week.
  • Reinforces and supervises activities of daily living and social skills in the residence.
  • Assist students staying on the weekend with budgeting, menu planning, grocery shopping, and meal preparation.
  • Coordinates and supervises a variety of evening leisure activities.
  • Informal counseling of students and crisis intervention.
  • Completes all student-related paperwork.

Required Education, Skills and Experience:

  • High School diploma required.

  • Some college; aptitude for and experience in social relations, preferred.

  • Ability to work effectively with disabled individuals, and establish a household atmosphere.

  • Knowledge of community health and welfare resources.

  • Current and valid CA driver’s license and minimum of three (3) years driving record acceptable to the agency’s insurance carrier as position requires transportation of clients using agency vehicles.
