California – Attorney Job Opportunity – Supervising Attorney and Adjunct Professor of Law – Loyola Law School Project for the Innocent

The Loyola Law School Project for the Innocent (“LPI”), a new clinical program of Loyola Law School, Los Angeles, announces a clinical faculty position of Supervising Attorney and Adjunct Professor of Law.
This is a part-time, 1 year position, with the possibility for renewal of contract.

Some of the essential attributes and responsibilities of this position are, but not limited to:
The person filling this position will serve as a Supervising Attorney and Adjunct Professor of Law.
In this capacity, the faculty member will provide instruction in clinical law courses, including the direct supervision of law students.
Serve as an adjunct faculty and teach the equivalent of a one-unit orientation on post-conviction litigation for the LPI students.
Oversee all aspects of LPI, including all legal staff, fellows, research assistants, and volunteers.
Provide leadership to and oversight of students, pro bono attorneys and clinical fellows.
Along with project fellows, develop and finalize all clinical and administrative procedures and practices of the Project for the Innocent.
Manage the administrative aspects of LPI.
Oversee, and in many cases conduct, all aspects of the post-conviction investigation and litigation, such as the drafting of motions and writs, and representation of LPI’s clients in evidentiary hearings and oral arguments throughout the state and federal courts in California.
Consult with policy makers regarding policy reforms, including the presentation of hearing testimony, comments on and participation in the drafting of legislation, and consulting on other policy initiatives.
Develop and participate in professional and public education programs regarding the work of LPI.
Make effective presentations to faculty, bar, university, civic and professional audiences.
Assist with LPI’s fundraising and development efforts.
Continue to implement procedures aimed at bringing Loyola Law School Project for the Innocent up to Innocence Network standards with goal of joining the Innocence Network.
Along with project fellows, establish and nurture working relationships with Innocence community across the country.
Experience: Substantial experience in criminal law practice required, including experience in post-conviction state and federal practice.
Legal teaching experience, particularly in a seminar, clinical, skills development setting.
Experience in mentoring students and lawyers.
Knowledge/Ability: Substantial knowledge of criminal law, including post-conviction state and federal practice.
Highly developed administrative, organizational and leadership skills.
Able to work collaboratively with students, faculty, staff and administrators.
Effectively interact with people from diverse backgrounds, cultures and ethnic groups.
Effective interpersonal and communication skills to create successful partnerships with faculty, students, staff and other groups.
Excellent counseling and customer service skills.
Exemplary communication skills (both written and oral).
Excellent interviewing skills.
Ability to analyze, assess, evaluate, identify problem and take initiative to resolve.
Ability to interpret applicable laws, policies and principles, etc.
Perform research, marketing, public relations, public speaking and make presentations.
Manage multiple tasks simultaneously and meet deadlines, often with competing priorities.
Keen attention to detail.
Computer competency with Microsoft Office suite, databases and other relevant technology.
