Job Summary: Assists the surgical team in the preparation of surgical procedures in the operating room. Prepares surgical cases by creating and maintaining a sterile field. Performs a variety of technical skills, including the maintenance of supplies. Coordinates resources to improve utilization and decrease turnaround times and delays. Provides Annual Process Improvement Project to further the quality of the department. Performs level I, II, and III cases. Reviews, checks and/or directs the work of junior staff. n Job Requirements: n Education and Work Experience: High School Education/GED or equivalent: Preferred n Associate’s/Technical Degree or equivalent combination of education/related experience: Preferred n Three years’ technical experience: Preferred n Completion of an Operating Room (OR) training course: Preferred n Licenses/Certifications: Surgery Technician certification: Preferred n Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) or Basic Life Support (BLS OR HS-BLS OR RQIBLS) certification: Required n Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification: Preferred n Essential Functions: Prepares for each surgical case by accurately checking required supplies and equipment prior to case. Assembles appropriate supplies/equipment prior to operative procedures. Reviews inventory and orders equipment for specialty as assigned. Sets up operative instrumentation/sterile field for expedient retrieval/utilization. n Collects data on assigned surgical cases by the unit based Performance Standards of Care. Cleans equipment and facilities as necessary. Performs housekeeping duties as requested. n Participates and trains staff and students on new equipment, instrumentation, and procedures. Transports patients according to unit schedules and priorities. Provides clerical duties. n Completes instrument, sponge, needle and blade counts with the Registered Nurse (RN) according to established standards. Sets up/maintains neat and orderly sterile field demonstrating careful attention to aseptic technique. Properly labels solutions according to established standards. n Collects data on assigned surgical cases by the unit based Performance Standards of Care. n Performs other job-related duties as assigned. n Organizational Requirements: Adventist Health is committed to the safety and wellbeing of our associates and patients.
