Instrument Technician.

Job Description and Qualifications Air Products and Chemicals, Inc., a world-leading manufacturer of industrial gases, is seeking a high energy, self-starter to fill an INSTRUMENT TECHNICIAN position in the Midwest or Eastern US.

This is a residence-based position.

This position is responsible to perform and/or supervise the inspection, repair, installation and modification of process controls, safety devices, analyzers, PLCs, field instrumentation and process monitoring equipment in Air Products operated plants, joint ventures, subsidiaries, and third-party facilities.

Instrument Technicians are also responsible for commissioning of new plants in addition to troubleshooting, repair, and calibration of plant instrumentation and controls.The Instrument Technicians have a very demanding position.

Technicians are expected to respond to Operations requirements on a 24 hour per day, 7 days per week basis.

Generally, Instrument Technicians average 60-65 hours per week, and they travel away from home about 75% of the time.

The facilities at which work is performed are located primarily in the United States and Canada.

International travel outside of North America is expected to be low but is possible.The Technicians responsibilities vary depending on the situation, and include:Technicians must be familiar with all equipment in plants served.

A sampling of these devices includes transmitters, switches, analyzers, programmable controllers, proximity devices, level control systems, control valves, equipment and personnel safety systems, paymeter systems, and others.

Within each category are a variety of pneumatic and electronic devices.Technicians are also responsible for troubleshooting and working withProcess ControlsEngineering Support to maintain distributed control systems.

This is a most rapidly changing technical area and requires a high level of technical training.Prepare and provide technical reports and enter information into SAP to provide accurate documentation and information for equipment.Qualifications / Requirements:High school diploma/equivalentMinimum five years experience with calibration and troubleshooting of industrial plant instrumentation and controlsKnowledge of PLC and DCS controls is a plusSupervisory skills/experience a plusBasic computer skillsSAP knowledge is desiredAbility to work in an industrial environment that includes climbing ladders and stairs, lifting up to 50 lbs.
