Communications Technician

TECH COMM I

This position is the entry-level position for ERS Communications support.

Under direct supervision of the Senior Communications Technician and/or other senior staff, the position learns and applies basic principles, techniques and practices to install, remove, maintain, diagnose, program, modify and repair a wide variety of electronic communication equipment and related devices used by Emergency Road Services contractors.

Assist in the maintenance, diagnosis, and repair or modification of a wide variety of electronic communication equipment.

Equipment serviced includes, but is not limited to voice and data transmitting and receiving equipment operating in the 150-900MHz range, mobile radio equipment, digital and analog telephone recording equipment, service monitors, personal computers (used as a data terminal), mobile data terminals, digital voice radios and base stations, antennas, modems, printers, video monitors/cameras, pagers, scanners, microprocessor-based interfaces, acquisition equipment and associated accessories.

Assist in programming, shipping and troubleshooting tablets for ERS contractors.

Assist with Help Desk calls from contractors and other business units across ACE.

Report failures, damage to or unauthorized modification of equipment to unit supervision, as well as report performance issues, unique propagation conditions.

Perform all other duties and responsibilities as assigned or required

Document all work performed and equipment and parts used in the Service Performance and Inventory Management System (SPIMS).

Skills

Ability to multi-task, balance numerous and diverse operations, as well as possess the ability to work well with employees, management and vendors required.

Professional verbal and written communication skills required.

General organizational and time management skills required.

Knowledge of digital/analog communication networks desired.

Knowledge of electronic inventory systems desired.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office software, including Outlook, Word, Excel.

Valid Driver License, acceptable driving record and minimum limits of automobile liability insurance

required.

Travel may be required

Ability to handle critical outages or problems during non-business hours in support of a 24 hours per day, 7 days per week environment.
