The team is essential to new product development and is focused on continuous improvement of processes and practices in testing.

This role will be given the opportunity to be successful by learning from the best in lighting and will be encouraged to share your own ideas.How You Will ContributeThis role is responsible for test and measurement operations on Acuity Brands lighting products, component parts and related materials.

Additionally, this person will help to maintain activity records, generate finished reports for the customer and forward finalized reports to the customer once the supervisor has reviewed and approved.

Matrix partners for our Lab Technicians include engineers to modify products for additional testing.Key Responsibilities IncludeValidation technician including electrical, mechanical, and environmental testing of Acuity Brands products required for third party safety.Certification and to ensure products meet internal and external specification (including any or all: UL, CSA, IEEE, ANSI, IEC, FCC).

Testing is based on adaptation of generic Certification body test method to the specific Acuity Brands product and includes set-up, testing, reporting and interpretation of results to product groups.

This includes testing of digital, analog, and mixed signal electronic circuits for lighting and lighting controlsMaintain lab space to meet 5S goals.

Adapt and modify to improve testing performance as needs ariseMeasure in accordance with KPI (key performance indicators) metrics.

Shared accountability within department to fulfill Acuity Brands Lighting/Lean initiatives.

Using Lean tools and KPI measures to maintain a consistent flow through the lab, and identify areas/activities in need of improvementQualified Applicants Will HaveMinimum of an Associate’s Degree or equivalent work experienceMinimum of three years of related experience in laboratory testing required.

Experience in electrical, electronic and illumination engineering preferredAbility to understand and follow electrical schematics requiredKnowledge of any but willing to learn other lab competencies technician work: Thermal, photometric (NVLAB), Vibration, Reliability, Photometrics, Chamber testing, Eng specific or function tests, testing associated with safety standards such as UL standards to enable certification by a third-party safety certification bodyAbility to verify complicated test data to ensure the result obtained through testing conforms to UL, IES and Acuity Brands standards.

Ability to construct needed test apparatus to perform the requested testing, e.G.

Constructing mounting apparatus for luminaries being tested for photometric data collection.Demonstrated understanding of Electrical Systems Testing & Evaluation (working with Lab equipment such as Data Acquisition and data manipulation, power supplies, oscilloscope, signal analyzer), EMI, surge, system performance, transients, interference, ESD, EFTDemonstrated ability to read electrical wiring diagrams, understand and use numerous technical instruments required to perform the requested testing, and apply standards to testing scenariosAbility to prioritize projects, requests, tasks, and deadlines to ensure timely project completion.

Able to interpret and create action plans based on driving results.

Update lab physical or electronic records.Excellent communication skills to and drive to work with clients to fully understand the scope of the requested informationProficient with Excel, Word, PowerPoint and other Windows applications required.

Typing skills required.

Proficiency with SharePoint software preferred.
