This involves drafting and reviewing documents, and working with various constituents on campus and in the community.

The Social Media/Communication Specialist will actively contribute to the development and implementation of comprehensive, strategic marketing and communication plans designed to effectively publicize programs, faculty (teaching, research and service), staff, and student success, using a variety of communication mediums.

This position is primarily responsible for copywriting, executing, and measuring the effectiveness of marketing communications that present information to internal and external audiences, supporting the Dean s advancement responsibilities, and coordinating College s events and programs.Duties: 25 15%
– Planning and Event Coordination: Provide administrative and logistical support for the CAS events, speakers, conferences and productions.

Arrange the use of facilities (with exception of Arts Building), services such as catering, and related equipment for events.

Coordinate with faculty and divisional staff to support department specific events, productions, exhibits.

Point of contact for UAA Admissions Office: coordinate with Admissions and CAS faculty and leadership for recruitment events.

Photograph events as needed for advertising, publicity, and social media purposes.

10%
– Media Relations and Public Relations: Seek opportunities in the community to raise awareness about and increase visibility for the College of Arts and Sciences and its mission and purpose.

Oversee planning, development and placement of press releases and news stories.

Serve as the first point of contact for media inquiries.

Work closely with faculty and staff in developing messages to respond to media inquiries.

Provide media training and coaching for faculty and staff as needed.

Develop and oversee creative/design concepts from beginning to end to include visuals, campaign concepts, writing radio/TV scripts, and brochures and publications.

Monitor communications activities and redirect messages and comments that require a response.

Perform other related duties incidental to the work described for the Dean.

– Marketing and External Communication: Raise awareness of and engagement with the College of Arts and Sciences including its academic programs, research and activities among key external and internal audiences by developing content including flyers, media, and other marketing material.

Ensure that systems, processes and workflows promote efficient and coordinated mass communications throughout the college.

Ensure that CAS templates, branding and logo guidelines are met.

Collaborate with key partners at the college and university (including CAS departments and university offices of advancement, admissions and information technology) and with external stakeholders (including industry leaders, etc.).

Track and analyze metrics to measure the impact of content marketing effort.

Supervise student employees related to marketing and communications.

– Overall management: Lead the development, management, and execution of strategic marketing communications plans to build and maintain visibility/create awareness of the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) to a variety of internal and external audiences.

Collaborate with CAS Dean and Sr.

Operations Manager to develop and implement strategic communications/marketing plans and initiatives that align with the college s mission.

Strengthen and refine the College of Arts and Science s brand, ensuring that organizational image and voice align with the college s mission, vision and strategic priorities.

Essential 40 40%
– Content development: Develop and disseminate high-quality, engaging written and audio/video content for the college s external and internal communications channels, including websites, marketing materials, mass emails, newsletters, social media, advertisements and others aligned with the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) mission, vision and strategic priorities.

Design and coordinate consistent communications that include strategies to regularly inform the college faculty and staff and other campus and community members about CAS student, faculty, and staff achievements and activities and to promote pride in CAS.

Ensure content is up-to-date and appropriate for relevant audiences.

Ensure content accessibility requirements are met.

Proofread, edit, layout and modify documents and coordinate the printing, publishing and distribution process.

Solicit periodic faculty/staff reviews to ensure content is current.

Monitor and assess content/campaign performance metrics across channels, using data to inform future activities.

Point of contact for UAA Advancement Office; provide stories, photos, messages to the Advancement Team to promote the college at a university level.

Maintain communications and related databases, including obtaining, entering, retrieving, and maintaining data.

Electronic media updates on web, Facebook, Tumblr, and YouTube.

Design and update department webpages.

Initiate, produce and generate public interest stories that are newsworthy for dissemination to promote external outreach and public relations.

Design graphics for advertising purposes.

Master s degree preferred.

Accredited in public relations (APR) by the Public Relations Society of America is a plus.

REQUIRED EDUCATION OR TRAINING: Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Marketing or related field required, and 3 years of progressively responsible communications experience related to the program, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Master s degree preferred.
