Find your future with us.The Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) is seeking a Senior Propulsion Subsystems Manufacturing Technician (Level 5) to support the Satellite Division team in El Segundo, CA. The Boeing El Segundo Satellite factory manufactures, tests, and delivers component level and integrated satellite systems for both commercial and government customers.The ideal candidate will determines sequences and methods, lays out, fabricates, constructs, assembles, checks, tests, and troubleshoots precision developmental and production hydraulic, hydro-mechanical, electro-mechanical and mechanical assemblies for spacecraft propulsion subsystems. Basic knowledge of shop trigonometry and a working knowledge of mechanical drawing is required.Position Responsibilities:* Works from preliminary and released design drawings, sketches, specifications, manufacturing planning, oral and written instructions and often from incomplete specifications, to determine the most appropriate method to correlate assembly, process and test procedures to fabricate propulsion subsystems to exacting tolerances.* Performs pressure leak and electrical testing of electro-mechanical components. Diagnoses malfunctions, misfits and makes corrections and modifications. Prepares propulsion subsystems for engineering tests, improving hookups and equipment modifications as directed. Prepares space vehicles for flight by installing pyro explosives solely in relation to the Propulsion sub-system Integration activity. Assists in non-destructive testing.* Operates all shop equipment such as contamination control equipment, helium leak detector, orbital TIG welding machine, digital voltmeter, oxygen analyzer, hygrometer, gas flow meter, tube benders, overhead crane, microscope, ultra-sonic cleaner, pneumatic pressure equipment, precision weighing and measuring devices and vacuum evacuation equipment. Also perform cryofit couplings with the use of LN2.* Performs work in a clean room environment and sometimes on high structures such as gantry cranes at launch sites.* Assists engineering personnel in determining improved precision assembly techniques and procedures.* Performs incidental related duties as assigned or required.* Needs two years or equivalent knowledge in the use of orbital TIG welding.* Needs to be able to be granted a security clearance.*This position requires the ability to obtain a US Security Clearance for which the US Government requires US Citizenship.Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):* Performs work in a clean room environment and sometimes on high structures such as gantry cranes at launch sites.* Assists engineering personnel in determining improved precision assembly techniques and procedures.* Operates all shop equipment such as contamination control equipment, helium leak detector, orbital TIG welding machine, digital voltmeter, oxygen analyzer, hygrometer, gas flow meter, tube benders, overhead crane, microscope, ultra-sonic cleaner, pneumatic pressure equipment, precision weighing and measuring devices and vacuum evacuation equipment.* Basic knowledge of supporting hand tools used in the build process of electro-mechanical and mechanical assemblies.Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):* Needs two years or equivalent knowledge in the use of orbital TIG welding.* Blueprint reading and ability to interpret and work from engineering drawings.* Familiarization with manual tube fabrication with use of bending machines.Typical Education/ExperienceEducation/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 14 or more years’ related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+9 years’ related work experience, Master+12 years’ related work experience).
