Position Overview: The responsibility of this position is to specify, design and implement tooling and processes to improve, simplify and reduce costs of the Company’s products.

Research and evaluate new methods of manufacturing to aid in manufacturing of Company products.

The individual must be able to work under minimal supervision and interact with commercial customers as well as various Sheppard departments.

Responsibilities captioned below are considered essential job functions: Principal Duties & Responsibilities: Ensure all dimensions of a project are thoroughly completed by overseeing it from beginning to end and reporting the results of the project to the Engineering Manager Review and follow-up on projects following completion to ensure that the proper results are being maintained Assist supervisors with shop problems by utilizing a comprehensive knowledge of machinery, tooling, and fixturing for all operations Provide advice to the Purchasing Department in the preparation of materials used and suppliers acquired in the manufacturing process that reflect the highest quality and sufficient quantity at the most economical cost Recommend process or machining methods changes to ensure conformance to required standards and time schedules as required by the assigned projects.

Compare new methods to old by utilizing test results and observation of such methods Visit suppliers, manufacturers and other companies for the purpose of surveying and approving methods and machinery Maintain current knowledge of new technology in tooling and methods which relate to the goals and objectives of the company Assist other members of the department by: providing them with drawings to detail, advising and assisting them with their projects; evaluating and checking the completed drawings.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Working Conditions/ Physical Requirements: General shop and machine tool noise, dirt grease, and coolants from the operation of machines and equipment.

Normal working position is sitting, bending stretching, lifting, standing, or walking throughout the plant.

The weight can range anywhere from 1 to 75 lbs.

Skills/Qualifications: B.S.

Mechanical Engineering Knowledge of drafting and machinery Knowledge of medium volume assembly Project management experience Custom machine design for assemblies skills 3D CAD software knowledge Error-proofing design success knowledge Knowledge of and previous use of lean tools PLC ladder logic knowledge preferred Research and Development skills Ability to utilize sound engineering techniques to complete assignments on time Quality communication skills for relating to people on all levels and in order to deal with suppliers Ability to make decisions independently, based on overall objectives established by the Manufacturing Engineering Manager Job Requirements: Required Skills What does Sheppard have to offer you?
