1199SEIU Family of Funds: Legal Caseworker

Responsibilities:Interview applicants and assess eligibility for immigration cases of members applying for US Citizenship and other immigration benefitsPrepare immigration applications including but not limited to: Application for Naturalization [N-400], Request for Fee Waiver [I-912], Medical Certification for Disability Exception [N-648] and Change of Address form AR-11Manage immigration cases; update database, schedule and notify clients of appointments with the US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS)Track immigration applications, write follow up letters, update logs, prepare case notes and manage a heavy volume of phone callsProvide referrals to members who require external legal representation pertaining to naturalization, family petitions, adjustment of status, deportations, work authorizations, etcService walk-in members regarding various immigration issuesAssist with citizenship and immigration workshops; analyze and process workshop application dataRemain abreast of changes in immigration lawPerform additional duties and projects as assigned by managementMust meet performance standards including attendance and punctualityQualifications:Bachelor’s degree requiredMinimum three (3) years’ experience professional experience working with immigrants to obtain U.S.

Citizenship requiredKnowledge of current immigration forms, USCIS procedures, immigration and nationality laws requiredProficient in MS Word, Access, Excel, and Power Point; strong typing skillsBilingual (Spanish, Chinese, French, Russian) preferredMust have organizational and time management skills with superb attention to detailsAble to follow up, multi-task, and work well with demanding deadlines and time pressuresOutstanding interpersonal and communication skills both oral and writtenMust be able to maintain a flexible work schedule including limited local travel in tri-state areaAble to work and maintain the confidentiality required of the Citizenship department and the organization
