Senior Research Associate
Apply Keck School of Medicine Los Angeles, California

The Department of Preventive Medicine in the Keck School of Medicine of the University of Southern California is in search of a Senior Research Associate for its Cancer Surveillance Program (CSP).

CSP is the State of California designated agent for the population-based cancer registry for Los Angeles County, one of the largest and most scientifically active cancer registries in the United States and in the world.

This position is to provide leadership in the scientific use of the CSP data, communicate with data users, and manage CSP’s surveillance research activities to monitor the cancer disparities among the large and racially/ethnically diverse populations in Los Angeles County and beyond.

Responsibilities include:
Serves as a senior researcher with expertise in cancer surveillance and surveillance research Promote and facilitate the use of cancer registry data in cancer control collaborations Contribute to the development of new concepts and standards for registry data utilization Participate in local, state, and national level cancer registry workgroups Exercise ingenuity and innovation to develop research collaborations and solve problems Provides leadership, direction, and guidance to staff and/or trainees
The ideal candidate should have prior experience in using cancer registry data to conduct epidemiologic research, have strong organizational capabilities, superb problem-solving skills, and a demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively.

A doctoral degree in epidemiology or public health is preferred.

Post-doctoral training experience is preferred.

Minimum Education: Ph.D.

or equivalent doctorateMinimum Experience: 3 yearsMinimum Field of Expertise: Directly related education and experience in research specialization with advanced knowledge of equipment, procedures, analysis methods, principles, theories and concepts.
