Research Biller

Responsibilities
Serve as Research Biller for the Division of Hematology-Oncology Clinical Trials Unit in Westwood and Santa Monica.

Primary responsibilities include: performance of project management for high volume billing office, distribution of weekly billing reports, distribute daily billing high volume reports, review and approval of all high-ticket research billing charges in CareConnect, management of the billing approvals in CareConnect, Velos, Excel, hard copy paper bills, or Excel spreadsheets that are provided by the billing offices.

You will work with the study teams to reconcile billing charges; assist the Santa Monica clinic Reimbursement/Billing office in identifying charges to route to insurance and collaborate with CareConnect Super Users to report any billing corrections or system problems.

You will also be responsible for quality control of registration and billing errors, correction of billing, development and maintenance of billing and Velos update reports as well as develop reports for Management.

Review research protocols to the budget to validate exams and determine if a contract amendment is needed or to determine the correct billing path.

Work with Management on billing related projects.

Provide overall billing support to the Finance Office and serve as back-up for divisional needs.

Assist with special projects as requested.

Qualifications

Required:
Working knowledge of CPT, ICD9, ICD10 coding.
Ability to provide guidance to junior billers of research billing policy and procedures.
Working knowledge of reviewing and processing Hospital billing.
Skill in prioritizing assignments to complete work in a timely and accurate manner.
Ability to perform under the pressure of frequent interruptions and distractions.
Skill in using a personal computer and computer software such as Excel, Word, Microsoft Mail and various patient databases such as the Research Velos Database.
Knowledge of University, clinic and hospital billing policies and procedures.
Minimal working knowledge of medical terminology, specifically in Hematology-Oncology, sufficient to recognize and analyze appropriateness of research expenses from clinic, clinical labs, radiology, CRC and other hospital, clinic and University departments.
Ability to organize and manipulate a large quantity of data.
Working knowledge of CareConnect.
