Research Associate II-ObGyn

Responsibilities

We are looking for a team player to join our dynamic group and perform biomarker work and basic scientific research in the areas of immunology, cancer and HIV/AIDS. Your primary duty will be to measure biomarkers in studies done in collaboration with multiple PIs (UCI, Havard, COH, UWS) and for the AIDS Malignancies Consortium (AMC) core biomarkers lab.

The AMC is a cooperative NIH/NCI-funded consortium to promote clinical trials in AIDS-related cancers. This work will involve organizing, aliquoing and handling human fluids (serum, plasma, saliva, etc) and will be mostly done using the Luminex platform. Additionally, you will be involved in aiding basic research projects by the lab. This will involve performing various techniques such as tissue culture of human cells with sterile aseptic techniques. You will also perform DNA/RNA/protein isolation/extraction/quantification from assorted biological material and tissue, as well as cell culture work, DNA/RNA/protein assays, research data procurement, and data analysis. The candidate should be self-motivated, demonstrate initiative and be able to work independently and as a part of a team on research grade projects.

Qualifications

  • BS degree in Biological-related field or equivalent combination of education and professional
    experience
  • At least 2-year experience working in the field of cell and molecular biology.
  • Ability to keep organized, descriptive and accurate laboratory records.
  • Knowledge of UCLA Policies and procedures
  • Knowledge of specimens and tissue collection
  • Experience with Multiparametric Flow Cytometry
  • Knowledge and ability to order supplies utilizing Bruin Buy on a quote-based system and maintain laboratory equipment.
  • Experience with training and supervising others
  • Knowledge of Luminex platform and working knowledge and experience in general cell biology, molecular biology techniques (PCR, qPCR, immunoblots, ELISA)
  • Ability to operate various office equipment, to setup and maintain filing system and office supplies
