The Gibb Laboratory is seeking a highly motivated research associate to join our Blood Transfusion Immunology Laboratory at Cedars-Sinai, led by David Gibb MD PhD. The lab studies the immune response to red blood cell antigens following blood transfusions, and the role of inflammation in this response. Other areas of study include: inflammatory mechanisms leading severe consequences in Sickle Cell Disease; and mechanisms underlying RBC auto- and alloantibody production in lupus. The laboratory utilizes mouse models, cell lines, and human samples.

Primary Job Duties and Responsibilities:

Performs a variety of increasingly complex experimental protocols and procedures and assist in the design of new complex or unusual protocols and techniques.

Keeps accurate and detailed records of experiments and results, and assist in identifying and troubleshooting of unexpected results.

Orders laboratory supplies and supports laboratory operations.

Maintains lab equipment and related records and may coordinate use of lab equipment.

Assists in the operation of specialized equipment, as required by the area of research.

Assists in preparation of data for publication and/or presentation at scholarly meetings.

Observes and complies with safety standards and procedures.

Complete experiments independently or with other lab members or the principal investigator. 

A successful candidate will be a self-starter, have excellent organizational and record keeping skills, and be able to multi-task while maintaining precision.

Skills frequently utilized to complete daily tasks include: mouse handling, basic lab skills, DNA extraction and PCR, flow cytometry, and cell culture. Additionally, animal husbandry and colony management rely on basic knowledge of genetics.

Working under direct supervision, the Research Associate II performs routine and increasingly complex laboratory tasks and procedures and develops technical expertise in one or more areas relevant to research projects.
