Job Title: Market Clerk

Summary: Obtains or receives merchandise, places orders, provides outstanding customer service, totals bill, accepts
payment, and makes change for customers in retail store by performing the following duties.

Responsibilities:
1. Ability to place orders with a variety of vendors and take care of all related follow through including, but not limited
to, returns for credit, special orders, and pricing adjustments.
2. Contribute to the maintenance of minimum margin expectations of 40% for the Grocery Department and 32% for the
Perishable Department.
3. Stocks shelves, counters, or tables with merchandise.
4. Sets up advertising displays or arranges merchandise on counters or tables to promote sales.
5. Hangs correct shelf labels and signs in front of correct products using UPC# and date range as exclusive criteria.
6. Follows and enforces Lassen’s Stocking & Facing Policy and Procedures.
7. Follows and enforces Lassen’s Special Order Policy & Procedures.
8. Obtains merchandise requested by customer or receives merchandise selected by customer.
9. Provides outstanding customer service and answers customer’s questions concerning location, price, and use of
merchandise.
10. Totals price and tax on merchandise purchased by customer to determine bill.
11. Accepts payment and makes change.
12. Wraps or bags merchandise for customers.
13. Cleans shelves, counters, or tables.
14. Removes and records amount of cash in register at end of shift.
15. Calculates sales discount to determine price.
16. Keeps record of sales, prepares inventory of stock, and orders merchandise.

Education and/or Experience
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or
equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Skills
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple
correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and
other employees of the organization.

Mathematical Skills
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
Ability to compute margin percentages.

Reasoning Ability
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to
deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Computer Skills
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have a strong basic knowledge of Internet software; Point of Sale
software; Computer based Order processing systems; Spreadsheet software and Word Processing software.
