 Specifically, the Law Clerk position combines clerical and office administrative duties for Justice Moor with the opportunity to engage in traditional law clerk research and analysis, including drafting orders and memoranda and providing legal recommendations.nn nn nn nn nn nn nn Responsibilities nn nn Provide detail-oriented administrative and clerical assistance to Justice Moor and his research attorneys, including distribution of cases for assignment, preparation of appellate opinions for circulation, filing legal documents, preparing for oral argument, obtaining signatures from appropriate staff, calendaring case deadlines, scheduling meetings, and data entry; Draft and edit court orders, conference memoranda, requests for supplemental briefing, and correspondence; Engage in legal research and analysis in connection with finalization of appellate opinions, pending motions, and petitions for extraordinary relief, including proposing edits to drafts for correct grammar, spelling, punctuation, content, and organization; reviewing records on appeal to check referenced facts; verifying legal authorities cited using computer-based citation services; and providing analytical feedback to drafts; Assure compliance of all documents with the California Style Manual and California Rules of Court; Monitor all stages of case preparation, including coordination with the Clerk’s Office and Reporter of Decisions to ensure that materials are correctly and timely processed and archived; Maintain Chambers case files, database information, and statistics; Assist with special legal, clerical, or administrative projects; Exercise skill in setting and balancing priorities that accurately reflects the importance and time-sensitivity of assigned responsibilities; In addition to clerical and administrative duties, the Law Clerk may have the opportunity to engage in drafting of appellate opinions, rulings on pending motions, or orders on petitions for extraordinary relief, including preparing written statements of facts based on the appellate record and preparing reasoned legal analysis applying rules of appellate review and the law; May need to work occasional evening and weekend hours; May be required to travel statewide as necessary; May need to transport boxes weighing up to 40 pounds; Perform other related work as required.
