Hospital Diet Clerk

Mission Community Hospital is a 145 bed Acute Care Facility with a 50 year legacy of serving the San Fernando Valley. Currently we seek Diet Clerks with hospital experience .  We are open to Full Time, Part Time and Per Diem interests.

The Diet Clerk is responsible for food selection and distribution of all in-patients and assists the Diet Technician, Registered (DTR) and the Registered Dietitian (RD) by visiting patients to obtain menu selections. The Clerk also processes all in-patient menus, completes the food production sheets and monitors the tray line service and modifies menus that patients have selected.    The Diet Clerk will Modify the correct menus for Special Diets such as Renal, Diabetic, Cardiac, etc. 

Major Responsibilities:

Patient Menus – 60%

•    Assists patients with menu selections

. •    Modifies patient menus according to physician’s prescribed diets and patient’s food preferences.

 •    Processes menus for each meal according to the diet report.

 •    Posts meal and census count for each unit.

 •    Tallies food items to prepare on production sheets as needed.  

Tray Line – 25%

 •    As a starter, tray line is begun on time while placing condiments and utensils on tray line.

 •    As a checker on the tray line, ensures proper items are on the patient’s tray. 

•    Delivers patient trays, checking against diet reports and signs posted in patient room, door and above the bed.  

Supplies – 10% 

•    Orders items for position (ex., menus, stickers, office supplies), stocks menus in files.  

Other – 5% •    Other duties as assigned.  

Required Qualifications: 

–  Basic knowledge of therapeutic (special) diets

•    Ability to read, write and speak English proficiently.

 •    Must provide for confidentiality, privacy and safety of patients, visitors and staff at all times

. •    Must be available to work all shifts if needed. 

•    Fire Card- to be obtained with 90 days of hire.  

Preferred: 

•    6months Diet Clerk experience or college Nutrition major who has taken at least one semester of Therapeutic Nutrition

– High school diploma or equivalent. 

•    Ability to operate commercial kitchen equipment.

 •    One year in food service desired.
