Docket Clerk

Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP is a leading international law firm with more than 900 lawyers in offices throughout the United States, Europe, Asia and the Middle East. We are currently seeking a Docket Clerk in the Client Value & Practice Management department reporting to the Senior Firmwide Docketing Manager.

The position can reside in the Los Angeles or San Francisco office and will be responsible for ensuring the timely and accurate delivery of centralized litigation calendaring services firmwide and responsible for Efiling in State and Federal Courts (in CA State and Federal Courts as well as Nationwide Courts). The Docket Clerk must fulfill the needs of the firm in a manner, which is consistent with the Firms Core Values, whilst maintaining an atmosphere of teamwork and continuous improvement.

Key responsibilities of this position include:

  • Review filing notices and documents and enter/calculate corresponding calendar deadlines in firms Centralized Docketing Database (CourtAlert)

  • Monitor and respond to requests sent to docketing inboxes

  • Research court rules pertaining to deadlines and respond to associated inquiries

  • Responsible for Efiling in California State Courts, United States District Courts and Nationwide Courts

  • Evaluate papers for Efiling to ensure they meet the court filing criteria and local protocols, facilitate filing

  • Respond to calls, emails and maintain the docketing inbox

  • Participate in regular department meetings

  • Assist Docket Clerks/Coordinators in other firm offices and provide coverage as necessary

  • Perform other tasks as requested by the Senior Firmwide Docketing Manager

Qualifications (Experience, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities):

  • Bachelors degree preferred

  • Minimum of three years of e-filing/ docketing experience required

  • Proficiency with calendaring software (CourtAlert, not necessary)

  • General knowledge of California federal, state and local court locations, rules, procedures and pleadings

  • Must possess the ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks under pressure

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Strong attention to detail, organizational and filing skills

  • Working knowledge of applications including Word, Excel and Outlook

  • Ability to work independently or in a team setting, take initiative, set priorities and see projects through completion

  • Demonstrate ability to maintain high ethical standards and strict confidentiality of firm and client information
