GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITES & DUTIES: The Assistant Development Officer for Research works with the Chief Development Officer and Deputy Chief Development Officer for Research & Strategic Planning in preparing reports on individuals, companies, and foundations for the Museum’s Trustees, Senior Staff and Development Officers, utilizing Lexis/Nexis and other online information databases.

In doing so, the Assistant Development Officer participates in identifying and tracking potential prospects for the Museum’s campaign, as well as identifying companies for corporate membership or sponsorship of the Museum’s special exhibitions.

Other duties include preparing information in advance of Museum events for Senior Staff and Development Staff; preparing prospect screenings for the Trustee Development Committee and the Major Gifts Committee; managing portfolios of prospects for various projects and funding initiatives as assigned; and organizing data related to prospects and donors through the Development software system.

In addition, he or she also provides news, information, and strategic recommendations relevant to fundraising efforts to the various program areas within the Museum’s Development Office.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILIES & DUTIES: Writing concise reports for Trustees and Senior Staff to assist fundraising efforts Identifying potential new donors for the Museum’s capital campaign Formulating prospect strategies for Trustees, Volunteers, and Senior Staff Maintaining and expanding prospect portfolios for capital projects and other funding initiatives Prospect management and organization of information through Development software system Identifying potential corporate sponsors for the Museum’s special exhibitions Analysis of news, financial, and business information relevant to fundraising efforts of the Museum Managing procurement of department’s online resources and subscriptions Other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS: Experience and Skills: Excellent writing, editing, analytical, and communication skills Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines Attention to detail and strong organizational skills Strong computer skills and experience with MS Office Experience with Web-based research and online news retrieval systems; experience with Lexis-Nexis preferred Experience with Tessitura or other major development software system; experience utilizing prospect tracking/prospect management functions of this software Interest in current events and news related to business, finance, philanthropy, the arts, etc.

Knowledge and Education: BA or BS required
