We are looking for a WordPress Developer (Volunteer) who is interested in creating a user-friendly environment by writing code and moving forward in their career.

We expect you to be a self-starting professional who is curious about new digital technologies, communicates well, and aspires to combine usability with visual design.

However, we do have big ambitions — which is why we’re seeking experienced WordPress developers to help us with website development.That will play a crucial role in our ability to continue growing and sharing our quality journalism with an ever-expanding, eager audience.
Responsibilities
:
Build, extend, maintain, and optimize our website using the WordPress CMS Develop page types, taxonomy language, menu systems, and other WordPress CMS data structures based on wireframes and project requirements Manage the design and implementation of responsive websites from initial concept, site architecture, and user interface to finished deliverable Responsible for the development and design of web applications and components using HTML, CSS, JS, PHP, MySQL Be a WordPress website solution expert: you’ll be guiding our platform architecture, developing plugins, and establishing best practices Build fully functional WordPress websites based on business requirements and design specifications.

Configuring goals, triggers, tracking snippets, etc.

using Google Tag Manager, Google Analytics, as well as A/B tools like Google Optimize, etc.

Conferring with teams to resolve issues/bugs, prioritize needs, and identify and implement solutions Design, code, test, and implement websites and applications, for either internal or external uses Support and maintain existing web applications
Qualifications
:
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Web Development, or relevant field 3+ years of experience building websites as a front-end developer in a fast-paced environment using front-end technologies, including WordPress, HTML, CSS, JavaScript (vanilla and jQuery), PHP Proficient in building and maintaining websites built in WordPress (including theme and plugin development) Excellent verbal and written skills, with proven ability to communicate complex ideas in a clear and concise way Working knowledge of how to interact with RESTful APIs and formats (JSON, XML) Attention to detail with the ability to deliver projects on time and on budget Experience designing, developing, testing, and optimizing responsive websites Ability to understand CSS changes and their ramifications to ensure consistent style across platforms and browsers Familiarity with GitHub A working knowledge of design systems like Figma, Invision, etc.

Expectations
You will work remotely and on your own schedule, though we require a minimum commitment of 10-15 hours a week.

Because our staff is spread throughout the world, we communicate mostly through Slack and email, and team members are requested to be highly responsive in a timely manner.

We prefer candidates who can commit a minimum of six months to our organization.

This is a work at home position.
