The Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) team is seeking a Space Vehicle Systems Engineer (Level 3 or 4) to join their team in El Segundo, CA. The selected candidate will design and develop state-of-the-art satellite systems for space-based applications for commercial, civil and/or national security programs. As system engineers we apply common products, processes and tools across subsystems in pursuit of programmatic objectives.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Works across subsystems within the space segment to apply common products, processes and tools to engineers

  • Collaborates with customers and internal multi-disciplinary teams

  • Helps with requirements, functional decomposition, system verification, validation, integration and test planning and execution (including functional validation as well as formal requirements sell-off)

  • Forecasts and tracks requirement compliance activities to verify compliance and satisfy reporting obligations with the customer

  • Participates in the identification and resolution of cross-functional technical issues

  • Conducts risk reduction activities and issue resolution

  • Participates in system and segment level trades

  • May participate in the creation of the requirements and model based system engineering infrastructures (e.g., DOORS, CAMEO) and lead efforts to allocate and derive performance and functional requirements trace to lower levels

  • Participates in the planning and execution of space system engineering events and applies Boeing command media to ensure all entrance/exit criteria are satisfied

  • Supports programs in additional roles that evolve with the life-cycle. This may include supporting the Assembly, Integration and Test (AI&T) IPT as either a test engineer or in an oversight role to help track and resolve Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs)

This position is expected to be 100% onsite.  The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at the listed location.

This position requires a current Tier 5 (T5), formerly known as a Single Scope Background Investigation (SSBI) (U.S. Citizenship required) or requires candidate agreed to enter a Continuous Evaluation program.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor’s, Master’s or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry

  • 3+ years of experience in system engineering requirements, functional decomposition, verification, and validation

  • 3+ years of experience as an engineer assessing functionality or performance of a complex system

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Level 4: 5+ years of work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience 

  • Experience in satellite system design, development or test

  • Experience working with DOORS

  • Work with customers, program office, and interdisciplinary teams

  • Strong communication skills (both written and verbal)

Typical Education/Experience:

Experienced (Level 3)

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 5 or more years’ related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD, Master+3 years’ related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

Lead (Level 4)

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 9 or more years’ related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+4 years’ related work experience, Master+7 years’ related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

Summary Pay Range (Experienced, Level 3): $104,550 – $141,450

Summary Pay Range (Lead, Level 4): $128,350 – $173,650
