Hybrid – SQL DBA. 10+ years of in-depth experience with MS SQL database administration – 5+ years of in-depth experience in design, installation, and configuration of MS SQL Cluster with AlwaysOn high availability group in multi-subnet – 5+ years of in-depth experience in Azure SQL database configuration, migration, and administration
SUMMARY STATEMENT:
Under the direction of DBA & Data Warehouse supervisor, the Database ADM 4 provides support for database server administration. Major functions include design, build, implementation, and support of SQL database environments. Responsible for day-to-day operational support, trouble tickets, DB maintenance and configuration, and adhering to standard operating procedures within ISS IT Systems, including staff training and documentation. Role functions also include, but are not limited to design, design validation, installation, performance monitoring, optimization, troubleshooting and maintenance of a variety of RDBMS database platforms and environments. Working directly with project managers, application owners, and vendors, the incumbent is responsible for providing database administration support by assessing SQL server requirement from business/functional/technical aspects, proposing and implementing database solutions following ISS DBA standards and the industrial best practice. In addition, the individual needs to be available 24 x 7 for effective coverage of production database support.
TYPE OF SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
The individual is expected to work independently and with minimal supervision. The individual’s manager/supervisor will identify guidelines, objectives and deliverables. The individual is expected to determine the most effective way of accomplishing these objectives/deliverables and to properly validate these approaches with the manager/supervisor. The individual will then keep his/her manager effectively informed and receive ongoing guidance through regularly scheduled one-on-ones, and/or other means.
LIST DUTIES TO BE PERFORMED BY THE INCUMBENT:
The Database Administrator is responsible for:
- Setting up SQL database server on both Azure and on-premises;
- Configuring and tuning database server for optimal performance, high availability, sustainability and security;
- Upgrading, migrating, and patching database servers on varies SQL releases;
- Configuring and monitoring SQL database servers, in particular, SQL clusters with AlwaysOn Availability Groups;
- Providing database maintenance support, including database backup/recovery, index optimization/statistics update, and user/group access management, etc.;
- Providing database operational support with the ability to analyze, solve, and correct issues in reasonable time;
- Providing DBA support to project managers by:
•Assessing SQL server requirement from business, functional, and technical aspects;
•Proposing and implementing database solutions following ISS DBA standards and the industrial best practice.
- Supporting all development, test/staging, and production database environments, security assessments and remediation, detail procedure documentation.
