ACV Auctions is looking for a Staff Engineer that will focus on the Search and Notifications portions of our real-time auction marketplace.
This team is key to discoverability and engagement with our auction products for our thousands of daily active users and auctions.
From making sure users can find what they are looking for to developing ways to let them know vehicles they are interested in are available, there’s many ways to drive new product initiatives as well as improve existing experiences.
You will work alongside product management, quality, infrastructure, and other engineering teams to build and ship new features that will drive the growth of ACV Auctions.
We value practical software experience in addition to computer science fundamentals and training.
This team is breaking off from an existing team (with a current system built in Python) to provide a new level of focus and growth in an area we plan to continue to focus on as a company.
What you will be doing: Design and develop systems related to real-time search and notifications Starting a team who will build our next generation of search and notification products Own the overall performance of products and frameworks within the area of search and notifications Lead and complete software projects with minimal guidance from managers Establish and document best practices and coding standards Conduct code reviews, develop high-quality documentation, and build robust test suites Develop roadmaps and prioritize technical debt to effectively plan features and work Respond-to and troubleshoot highly complex problems quickly, efficiently, and effectively Mentor junior engineers What you need: BS or MS degree in Computer Science, a related technical discipline, or equivalent practical experience 5
– 8 years Experience architecting, developing, and delivering software products Evidence of successfully leading initiatives across multiple teams over multiple years Experience with transitional architecture or replacing existing systems without downtime Experience with programming in at least one or a combination of the following: C#, Python, Java, JavaScript Excellent communication skills between the technical and non-technical teammates; including problem solving, larger audience presentations, and one on one work Experience with contributing to staffing plans supporting engineering management Experience in a highly iterative environment with automated testing and continuous integration Experience maintaining and extending an existing codebase, adapting to pre-existing patterns and tracing the code’s path of execution Experience debugging distributed systems Experience developing unit tests Experience with build & deployment automation (CI/CD, GitHub Actions, Jenkins, TeamCity) Experience with version control systems (Git) Experience with Service Oriented Architecture/Microservices and Event Sourcing preferred Experience with real-time search technologies like Elasticsearch preferred What we offer: Learning & development opportunities We love to see our engineers grow and learn and have invested heavily in our internal learning and development program, which provides access to PluralSight, Frontend Masters, as well as in-person conferences and other options for learning.
