The Sr.

DevOps Engineer will help design and build our cloud environments as we re-platform our traditional on-premise application stack to one that is modern, API-based and cloud friendly.

You will be empowered to innovate and contribute to the definition of standards, automation, and processes that enable product development teams to release features anytime they want.

To accomplish these goals, the successful candidate will have a deep and thorough vision of how information flows, where to tap into it, and how to surface actionable details reducing CI/CD friction.  Within this stream, there are insights into the health of the system.

AppDynamics will be the primary tool for reporting these insights.

Your familiarity with systems such as IBM IFS, Linux and Atlassian will bridge deployment gaps for our fast delivery of innovative customer facing API’s.

You are the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for our application development platform for several diverse teams of Java, Web, and IBMi professionals.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

• Contributing member of the DevOps team to drive the design, development, delivery and support of our CI/CD pipelines.

• Leverage gained and/or educational experiences in operations engineering, connected services, and information technology to bring low-friction deployment skills to the company.

• Design and development, and continual improvement of source code management/build and release systems and tools.

• Excellent proficiency with systems such as IBMi (IFS), Linux, Windows, and Web Technologies

• Wizard-like ability using shell languages like bash and python.

• Execute on Continuous Integration and Pipe-lining Initiative using BitBucket, IBM IFS, Jira, Jenkins, and ServiceNow.

• Implement connected services for Enterprise-wide, health-of-systems dashboard.

You are expected to know how to connect disparate systems (IBM, Linux, AppDynamics, Atlassian, and Checkmarx) into a cohesive tool to create actionable intelligence for 1st responders.

• Influence operational approaches and solutions in traditional data centers, Network Operation Centers (NOC), and cloud services such as Jira and Bitbucket.

• Coach and mentor others by proving to Teammates that automated pipelines, processes & scripts makes supporting Enterprise software easier.

• Champions an agile and continuous improvement culture.

• Assists in coaching and mentoring development teams on continuous delivery best practices.

• Influence design decisions of API services in private and public clouds.

• Participate in problem solving and troubleshooting of infrastructure and applications as needed.

 

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent combination of relevant education, training and experience.

• 5+ years in Application Development or Site Reliability Engineering.

• 5+ years of experience with technologies such as Jenkins, GIT/Subversion, Maven, Gradle, Ant, JIRA, etc a must.

• 2+ years’ experience as a Lead Engineering role.

• Strong communication skills that effectively convey key messages, statuses and risks is a must.

• Easy-going & creative personality is a must.

• Demonstrable experience with CI/CD methodologies.

• Knowledge of IBM development tools and methodologies a plus.

• Strong familiarity with API management, SwaggerHub

• Excellent experience with managing, configuring and deploying Tomcat/Liberty and Java/JEE application stacks.

• Ability to integrate Jira, Jenkins, and BitBucket (or industry equivalents, on-prem and cloud).

• Solid scripting background (Shell, Perl, Ruby, JavaScript, Python, etc) a must.

• Solid understanding of Networking concepts (NAT, DNS, routing, etc), with practical hands-on and administrative experience with AWS.

• Strong organizational and troubleshooting skills a must.

• Be able to work with teams with varying levels of technical backgrounds and experiences.

• Strong sense of curiosity and problem ownership.

• Experience in supporting product and agile development teams.

• Background in systems architecture is a plus.

• Testing background is a plus.

• Hands-on experience with logging and monitoring tools such as AppDynamics and ServiceNow.

• Experience with database technologies such as DB2, MySql, etc is a plus.
