Sr Data Center Network EngineerLocation: Silver Spring, MDClearance: Public TrustJob/Position DescriptionSeeking a strong technical Data Center Network Engineer to join our team.
In this role you will provide day-to-day operational support and guidance of multiple Data Centers and related network infrastructure, while maintaining a best practices approach.
This position is the primary point of contact for FDA Data Centers and network infrastructure support.
We are seeking a person with a strong sense of urgency and the ability to multi-task and display attention to detail.In this role, a typical role will include:
• Providing day-to-day operational support and guidance of multiple Data Centers and related network infrastructure, while maintaining a best practices approach.
• Providing network administration and support to a campus-wide area network infrastructure and act as customer liaison with customer’s central IT network core infrastructure.
• Experience working with TCP IP protocol suite, IP subnets and masking, and routing protocols
• Experience working in Local Area Network (LAN) environments and Wide Area Network (WAN) environments
• Experience designing, configuring and troubleshooting Routing and Switching systems (Cisco expertise required).
• Experience with Routing Protocols to include BGP, MP-BGP, OSPF, EIGRP and ISIS.
• Experience with Gateway Redundancy Protocols to include HSRP and VRRP.
• Experience implementing L2VPN, L3VPN across an MPLS network.
• Experience with EVPN with VXLAN Data Plan Encapsulation across an MPLS network.
• Experience with Software-defined networking (SDN).
• Experience creating network topology diagrams.
• Leading and participating in Data Center and network related projects.
• Monitoring system activity and logs for problems.
• Recommending enhancements to improve systems availability and performance.
• Conducting technical research to determine feasibility, cost, time required, and compatibility with current software/service.
• Managing support tickets assigned to the Data Center Team, including prioritization, timely follow up, and close out of all tickets within service guidelines.
• Participating in regular Data Center maintenance window planning and implementations.
• Managing and maintaining all Data Center documentation.
• Keeping current with recent trends and technologies
• Suggesting and bringing forward improvements and keeping infrastructure up-to-date.
• Analyzing facilities’ bandwidth and capacity requirements and system interdependencies.
• Maintaining security and ensuring compliance with security policies and procedures.
• Primarily focused on day-to-day Data Center, Server & Network hardware break-fix & large-scale infrastructure build and deployment within tight deadlines.
• Responsible for troubleshooting connectivity issues with copper or fiber cabling.
• Provide technical communication pertaining to configurations in a concise, professional manner.
• Must identify and resolve complex server hardware and operating system failures to include the replacement of failed hardware components.
• Provide on-call support for off hours data center escalations.
• Perform regular scheduled out of hours maintenance window support.
• Experience with network IP address management.Qualifications Required
• Bachelors degree in computer science or equivalent work experience, with a minimum of 12-15 years of hands-on experience in the implementation and administration of complex, multi-location, multi-vendor, converged voice/data networks in a geographically distributed environment.
• Hands-on experience in administering Cisco routers (Cisco ISR, ASR series) & switches including but not limited to 35xx, 37xx, 38xx, 45xx, 65xx, Nexus 9xxx, 7xxx, 6xxx, 5xxx, 2xxx & 1xxx series.

• CCNP certification required
• Good understanding of network principles and the OSI model.
• Experience managing networks, internal and external DNS, and the associated IP infrastructure.
• Experience working in a Data Center
• Experience administering and configuring monitoring tools for proactive alerting and trends analysis.
• Experience in working with support ticketing systems, managing assigned tickets, as well as providing appropriate follow up
• Experience with creating and maintaining documentation
