Boeing Phantom Works creates the next generation products and services for the Boeing Defense, Space & Security business and is currently looking for a Software Engineering Manager to join their team in El Segundo, CA.
We work with proprietary customers in the development of the next-generation technologies in space. Phantom Works focuses on rapid prototyping to demonstrate a host of mission-focused technologies for a variety of customers. Our group works all facets of engineering from technology investment, concept development, proposal writing, requirements and design, build, integration, test, and demonstration of products in their relevant environments.
We are seeking a Software Engineering Manager with experience in satellites to work in a rapid development environment. This manager will need experience working with space flight and ground software in addition to flight software systems engineering. This person needs experience with managing direct reports as well as leading software development and analysis for space systems and ground segments performing command, control, mission planning and data processing. The role will conduct software/hardware test and evaluation with space and ground systems, oversee all software direct reports for Phantom Works Space, collaborate with security to stand up software environments, and participate in proposals, and acquire additional staff as needed.
Position Responsibilities:

Manage software engineering direct reports for Phantom Works Space

Collaborate with IT, Cyber, and Security to stand up software environments with the proper software toolsets

Lead and facilitate Agile Software Development techniques and DevOps

Develop, integrate, and test of space and ground flight software on a rapid development satellite program

Contribute to the full software life cycle
This position requires an active U.S. Top Secret Security Clearance (U.S. Citizenship Required). (A U.S. Security Clearance that has been active in the past 24 months is considered active)
Basic Qualifications (Required Skill/Experience):

10+ years of experience in Space Systems and ground systems or experience in development and analysis for space systems and ground segments performing command, control, mission planning and data processing

5+ years of experience in managing software engineering direct reports

Experience in standing up classified software working environments

Experience with agile development processes and methods
Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

Experience in a dynamic rapid prototyping environment

Experience in DevSecOps

Experience in staffing large space programs

Cloud development (AWS, GCP, Azure, Private Cloud)

Experience with containerization
