The Software Delivery Director is the project leader for large-scale software programs, bringing together multiple products and software platforms to deliver highly performant integrated software systems to the Diabetes portfolio.
The job requires strong leadership and software technology expertise combined with a solid understanding of product development and cross-functional collaboration.
The Software Delivery Program Director will be a leader within Medtronic Diabetes Software R&D.
He or she will lead, execute, support, and coordinate the development, testing, integration, and delivery of large-scale software systems as part of the R&D Software leadership team.
The role will work closely with Software R&D Functional teams and Technology Leaders, but also partner with Portfolio and Program Management, Systems and Platform Engineering, Quality, Regulatory, IT, and other cross-functional partners to support a cadence of successful software system deliveries.
This role will represent Software R&D in cross functional core teams and be responsible for leading coordinated development and delivery of software platforms into the Diabetes product portfolio.
This person will ensure that his/her project teams:
Are efficient, effective and well-coordinated Have clear priorities and goals Develop and track to schedules Deliver quality commercial releases that integrate multiple product platforms A Day in the Life
Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.
Plans, directs and implements all aspects of the company’s design and development of new medical device products or software systems.
May develop, evaluate, implement and maintain technical quality assurance and control systems or reliability systems and standards pertaining to materials, techniques, or company products.
Oversees the investigation and evaluation of existing technologies.
Guides the conceptualization of new methodologies, materials, machines, processes or products.
Directs the development of new concepts from initial design to market release.
Manages feasibility studies of the design to determine if capable of functioning as intended.
Monitors documentation maintenance throughout all phases of research and development.
Organizes the coordination of activities with outside suppliers and consultants to ensure timely delivery.
Selects, develops and evaluates personnel to ensure the efficient operation of the function.
Lead or leverage cross functional teams to evaluate, develop, and manage projects for new product development and on-going lifecycle management.
Integrate multiple project plans to create a comprehensive plan for the software systems Anticipate and mitigate risk points.
Make tradeoffs between time, schedule, cost, and experience (when appropriate), while meeting safety and regulatory requirements.
Exhibit project leadership skills including, but not limited to, critical path definition, optimization, monitoring, and management to ensure the most efficient time to market.
Track financials of the project including forecasting, accruals, and actuals.
Lead a sense of urgency, facilitate problem solving sessions to address obstacles, and hold team members accountable to program commitments Develop a broad understanding of the Diabetes Businesses, products, and clinical applications and leverage the knowledge of others.
Demonstrate strong leadership skills around a broad set of activities, leveraging strong communication and negotiation skills with an ability to collaborate and problem wolve within a matrix organization.
Actively participate on the Software R&D leadership staff to develop strategic plans and execute on them.
Must Have:
Minimum Requirements
Bachelors degree required Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience with 7+ years of managerial experience, or advanced degree with a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience with 7+ years of managerial experience Proven track record of successfully managing within a matrixed organization Experience managing or influencing Program/Project Managers Nice to Have Demonstrated program management expertise Demonstrated ability to work cross-functionally and to drive results through influence Excellent stakeholder management skills.
Proven ability to operate in a matrix organization and work effectively with leadership, customers, and across geographic and organization boundaries Strong organizational and cross functional leadership skills including building relationships with a diverse team Ability to work comfortably with ambiguity and operate effectively in white spaces Strong Business Acumen Experience driving for fast product development, concurrent engineering, and completion of complex projects on schedule and within budget Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to articulate complex ideas in easy to understand business terms Ability to manage multiple priorities and delivering end-product efficiently and on time
