When you join TeamAmex, you become part of a diverse community of over 60,000 colleagues, all with a common goal to deliver an exceptional customer experience every day.

The mission of the Developer Experience function at American Express is to find and remove sources of friction for the company’s software engineers.

We believe that our developers should be able to get the tools they need on demand using safe, secure, and financially responsible methods.

To this end, we have launched a new program to manage the third-party tools that developers use to create software on their workstations
– programming language runtimes, integrated development environments, build tools, and many others.

Reporting to the Director of Global Infrastructure Developer Experience, you’ll enable a world-class workstation experience for thousands of Amex software engineers.

You’ll be responsible for integrating and configuring a wide range of developer tools on workstations and servers and for partnering with other Amex teams to improve the internal systems and processes we use to procure, govern, and distribute these tools.

Please note that this is not a typical engineering role.

You won’t be on a team of developers iteratively building a single software product.

Though you will write code as part of the job, this role is primarily about curating an integrated ecosystem of third-party tools to provide the best working experience for the Amex software development community.

Day to Day: Partner with the Sr Product Manager and Associate Product Manager as you work through the project check-list to onboard and roll-out new tools Lead technical calls with the third party vendors Engage the appropriate internal teams (InfoSec, DX, GI, IAM, AppSec, etc) to ensure we are integrating to the Amex standard Support users when it comes to technical related questions, raise any concerns and defects to the vendor, and partner with the Sr PM to hold training sessions In this role, you will: Wear many engineering hats, including architecture, development, operations, infrastructure, and security Evaluate commercial and open source developer tools for use at Amex Write code to integrate software products you acquire with Amex’s enterprise technology systems for security and governance Provide technical support for developers using, integrating, and enhancing your portfolio of tools as part of their their daily work Partner with other technology teams cross-functionally to solve problems and meet shared goals collaboratively Have a huge impact on the quality of life for Amex developers As part of our diverse tech team, you can architect, code and ship software that makes us an essential part of our customers digital lives.

Here, you can work alongside talented engineers in an open, supportive, inclusive environment where your voice is valued, and you make your own decisions on what tech to use to solve challenging problems.

Amex offers a range of opportunities to work with the latest technologies and encourages you to back the broader engineering community through open source.

And because we understand the importance of keeping your skills fresh and relevant, we give you dedicated time to invest in your professional development.

Find your place in technology on TeamAmex Qualifications We’re looking for somebody who: Has 5 years of progressively more responsible software development experience Understands the hardware, software, network, and security architecture of data centers, servers, workstations, and applications Projects a strong point of view about what constitutes a great developer experience Has a well rounded knowledge of Amex tools and internal processes Is comfortable with uncertainty and relishes working autonomously in a self-directed startup environment Can see the big picture and assemble many individual pieces into a powerful whole Willing to learn new technologies and workflows when the product calls for it We back our colleagues with the support they need to thrive, professionally and personally.

Thats why we have Amex Flex, our enterprise working model that provides greater flexibility to colleagues while ensuring we preserve the important aspects of our unique in-person culture.

Depending on role and business needs, colleagues will either work onsite, in a hybrid model (combination of in-office and virtual days) or fully virtually.

If the role you are applying for is designated as hybrid or onsite, you will be required to demonstrate that you have completed your primary COVID-19 vaccination series (i.e., 2 doses for Moderna/Pfizer and 1 dose for J&J) in order to work in or visit any of our offices.
