FTI is currently seeking an experienced Senior Systems Engineer SME to support the Space and Missile Systems Center Portfolio Architect Engineering (SMC/ZAE) in El Segundo, California. The candidate will have working system engineering knowledge and experience executing and assessing the adequacy of the various space systems, understanding of Systems Engineering processes/best practices and be able to manage/execute the acquisition of military and commercial space systems in accordance with DoD and SMC acquisition procedures.
This position requires a Secret clearance and the candidate must be eligible to obtain a TS/SCI.
Responsibilities
- Serve on the FTI team of Systems Engineers directly supporting all systems engineering responsibilities as identified by the SMC Portfolio Architecture Engineering (ZAE) staff
- Identify and implement strategy to apply Systems Engineering methods and tools across SMC Corps and Programs. Identify cross-cutting requirements and facilitate coordination across technical stakeholders
- Work with all SMC capability directorates to support center level engineering tasking as required to support an integrated SMC Systems Engineering approach
- Provide Specialty Engineering expertise and guidance across SMC, including the disciplines of Digital Engineering (DE), Modular Open Systems Approach (MOSA), Enterprise Architecture, Agile Processes, DevSecOps and others
- Leverage space systems expertise to support SMC Corps and Programs with early acquisition efforts and development of Standard Space Training (SST) training for testers
- Lead SMC Specifications and Standards (S&S) development and maintenance, ensuring adherence to significant initiatives/guidance (i.e. Section 804 Rapid Prototyping/Rapid Fielding of Systems)
- Influence decisions of the SMC customer community to ensure mission success of programs
- Investigate and test FTI SBIR-developed tools to include but not limited to Integrated Cost as an Independent Variable (I-CAIV), Integrated Cost Estimation Tool (ICE), Readiness Assessment Engine (RAE), NormNet Prognostic Health Management, Integrated Sensor Analysis Tool (I-SAT), and the Extensible Load-Adaptive Processing Service (ELAPSE).
Education/Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering (i.e. Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, etc.) required
- Masters of Science degree in Engineering (i.e. Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, etc.) desired
- Must possess an active government Secret security clearance, TS/SCI preferred
- 15+ years actively working as Systems Engineer (background in Space Systems preferred to include space vehicles, payloads, ground stations and communication networks)
- 5+ years Space Systems acquisition specializing in satellites, control and ground segment, communications systems
- Previous experience at SMC is strongly preferred
- Experience with Systems Engineering tools and space system architecture development
- Familiarity with the DoD Architecture Framework (DODAF) and related architecture guidance
- Experience with architecture development and requirements tracking tools such as Rational Tool Suite and DOORS
- Experience developing and executing test and evaluation process
- Experience structuring Course of Action (COA) assessment, facilitating performance vs cost trades and conducting business case analyses (BCA)
- Familiarity with software configuration management processes to include source control management
- Familiarity with MS Excel and other MS Office tools
- Ability to work with cross functional team (i.e. project manager, logisticians, engineers, program analyst)
- Ability to work independently with geographically dispersed team
- Strong written and oral communication skills
