Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) is seeking a Senior Spacecraft Data Systems Engineer for their Satellite Systems Division located in El Segundo, CA. We are seeking engineers that are passionate about space and excited to work in a multi-disciplined, collaborative engineering environment that supports the design, development, and implementation of software for existing and emerging Boeing proprietary space programs. This position requires demonstrated experience within the software ecosystem, a diverse background of project experience, and the clear exhibition of superior judgment and decision making to engineer new solutions and capabilities. The candidate will create database products that provide a data driven location for space vehicle data composed of commands, telemetry, mnemonics, processor variables, and Signatures & Constraints (S&C) in support of software test & integration and mission execution. Demonstrated critical thinking and troubleshooting skills are required. Primary Responsibilities & Expectations: Coordinate within highly dynamic multi-disciplined engineering environment to create/modify spacecraft databases for emerging and legacy proprietary programs addressing new capabilities and performing ongoing maintenance. Resolve technical issues at the spacecraft system and subsystem levels. Concurrently plan, budget, and execute the development in support of key milestones. Respond to requests from program leadership in support of internal and external customers. Develop and sustain existing database management and viewing applications; as well as troubleshoot and resolve various software issues. Perform database migration activities as required. Develop data products according to spacecraft design, factory testing, simulation, launch, mission and on-station operational requirements. Evaluate customer operational database needs to recommend suitable data solutions for mission success. Support development of several data systems engineering related software applications used by operational teams for data visualization, validation, and maintenance. Contribute to the creation of new distributed components and interactions that align with the future system architecture. This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options. This position requires an active U.S. Top Secret Security Clearance (U.S. Citizenship Required). (A U.S. Security Clearance that has been active in the past 24 months is considered active). This position requires a post-start Tier 5 (T5), formerly known as a Single Scope Background Investigation (SSBI) (U.S. Citizenship required) or requires candidate agreed to enter a Continuous Evaluation program. Basic Qualifications: Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in Aerospace Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science or other technical degree. 5 or more years of experience working with relational databases such as MySQL, Sybase, PostgreSQL. 3 or more years of experience in software development using languages such as java, C++, and/or python. Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience): Proficient with the end-to-end satellite development process and software development lifecycle (SDLC). Experience with XML Telemetric and Command Exchange (XTCE), Consultative Committee for Space Data Systems (CCSDS) data, and object-oriented design. Experience in a collaborative team environment using agile principles and a structured development process including code reviews and automated DevOps processes/tools. Experience using team collaboration tools including Git, Bitbucket, JIRA, and Confluence. Relocation: This position offers relocation based on candidate eligibility.
