Opportunity Overview

We are searching for an experienced and creative senior program manager with a technical background and strong leadership skills to lead our Virtual Driver program.

This program is breaking new ground in automotive level 4 technology and it’s success is of great significance.

TuSimple’s Senior Program Manager
– Hardware & Systems is a well-versed and significantly accomplished project management veteran, playing a critical role with ensuring programs and projects are successfully delivered on schedule.

As a program leader the Senior Program Manager oversees all projects within a complex program (or several small/medium sized programs), driving program strategy, aligning cross-functional teams, and collaborating with both internal and external stakeholders.

The Senior Program Manager is an exemplary leader within TuSimple’s Program Management function, who leverages a deep understanding of project management and engineering principles to navigate complex interdependencies, drive risk mitigation, and solve for program challenges.

This is a matrixed leadership role and is highly cross functional in nature, partnering with system engineering, software, algorithm, hardware, sensors, product management and test teams.

Role Responsibilities
Develops, documents, maintains and monitors program plans and scope for the entire program.

Ensures schedules, milestones, resources and other key performance indicators (KPI) are met.

Creates high-level plans to guide the detailed planning at the component level.

May implement at the component level, as well.
Serves as overall leadership for assigned program, working with internal and external cross-functional teams.

Provides and communicates overall vision and direction for program.

Identifies and solves cross functional and inter-team challenges.
Develops and implements program quality management plan, including defining quality metrics and targets.

Monitors and ensures the program meets or exceeds defined quality metrics.
Identifies and manages opportunities and risks to achieve the best possible impact on schedule and available resources.
Maintains steady leadership throughout aggressive deadlines, changing priorities, and evolving operations, as common to progresive start-up environments.

Oversees, manages and develops PMO staff assigned to support program.
Navigates complex sets of dependencies between cross-functional teams and organizational priorities to optimize the critical path, address and mitigate risks.

Effectively influences internal and external teams to prioritize accordingly.

Drives mitigation plans.

Ensures owners are in place for each item and following up on a regular basis through program closure.

Drives escalation and resolution of issues, as necessary.
Fosters cross-functional team work and promotes collaboration, coordination and consistent communication among stakeholders.

Builds trusted relationships with partner teams, both internal and external, to understand prioritizations of work and ensure alignment.
Usea technical judgment to drive project delivery and technology reviews, challenge proposals, and build consensus.
Provides full transparency of progress v.

plan for the entire program, including regular status reporting to senior management.
Develops organizational change management plans, in partnership with all relevant stakeholders.

Conducts stakeholder analysis to ensure all affected by change are considered and proactively addressed, as needed.

Drives change management effectively to ensure program’s success.
Initiates and leads program kick-off and close out activities.

Outlines, documents and shares lessons-learned.
Sets program’s strategic plan based on the organization’s strategic objectives.

Clearly defines and sets program objectives, KPIs, and scope.

Cascades strategy, objectives and KPIs to program stakeholders, ensuring all program staff understand their roles, responsibilities and individual impact in meeting program objectives.
Effectively leads Project Managers and Project Analysts with the delivery of a portfolio of projects, driving best-in-class program management standards, and providing executive summaries of status across the entire program

Experience & Skills Required
12 years combined experience with Project Management AND relevant engineering experience
2 years experience directly managing Project/Program Management teams
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, related fields or equivalent related experience
Proven success with leading several cross-functional teams, ensuring clear focus and direction, and delivering projects on schedule.
Strong experience creating and maintaining multiple project plans of varying complexity, including: scope, schedules, resources and risks.
Demonstrated ability to determine actual v.

plan and communicate status.
Established ability to manage and resolve most project risk/issues, escalating only in the most complex situations.
Established ability to provide clear and effective direction to Project Analysts, as necessary.
Demonstrated ability to effectively influence for most project needs.
Proven leader of cross-functional teams with a track-record of successfully delivering products on schedule, while effectively fostering teamwork and collaboration.
