Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS), Space and Launch Division, is seeking an RF Communications Systems Engineer (Level 2, 3, or 4) to join the Payload Systems Engineering team in El Segundo, CA.  Our team works with commercial, civil, MILSATCOM, and proprietary customers in the development of the next-generation technologies in space, focusing on RF and digital satellite communications systems. We are directly involved in all facets of engineering including payload architecture development, proposal generation, requirements definition and allocation, RF performance analysis, and verification planning and execution including test.

The position provides an opportunity to work with experienced, interdisciplinary teams to develop unique systems to meet challenging requirements on one of our many exciting programs.

The selected candidate will be responsible for designing, developing, and delivering state-of-the-art communications payload systems for space-based applications. You will interact with customers, suppliers, program management, integration and test engineers, and senior technologists and you will either contribute to or lead a highly motived team.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Designs, analyzes, and verifies next generation RF and digital space communications systems

  • Develops payload architectures, generates proposals, and identifies and resolves trade studies

  • Generates, allocates, verifies, validates, and sells off system and payload level requirements

  • Creates RF performance and functional analyses and simulations

  • Prepares and executes system and payload-level design reviews

  • Develops, executes, and analyzes data for system and payload tests

  • Troubleshoots and resolves test anomalies

  • Performs system-level CONOPS development, functional analysis and decomposition

  • Coordinates across interdisciplinary teams and participates in the identification and resolution of cross-functional technical issues

  • Fosters strong customer relationships

  • Contributes to or leads payload systems engineering efforts and/or a program’s payload team

  • Supports the program in additional roles that evolve with the program life-cycle

This position is expected to be 100% onsite.  The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at the listed location. This worksite participates in Boeing’s optional 9/80 schedule rotation.  9/80 is a rotation in which employees can work 9-hour shifts, 8 days per pay period (bi-weekly) and receive every other Friday off.

This position requires the ability to obtain a US Security Clearance for which the US Government requires US Citizenship as a condition of employment. An interim and/or final U.S. Secret Clearance Post-Start is required.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in engineering; ten (10) or more years of directly related experience in lieu of a degree is acceptable.

  • Experience with RF systems analysis (such as gain-loss budgets, G/T and EIRP, passband performance, phase noise etc.)

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Level 3: 5+ years of work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience 

  • Level 4: 9+ years of work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience 

  • 3+ years of experience with RF communications system design, development, and/or verification

  • Experience with systems engineering

  • Experience leading technical teams or projects

  • Experience managing customer relationships

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

  • Technical degree in electrical engineering (with communications systems emphasis)

  • Experience with Matlab/Simulink, C#, Python, and C++

  • Experience with digital/RF communications hardware and lab equipment

  • Experience with digital signal processing (DSP) and antenna theory

  • Experience within the aerospace, defense, or similar high-tech industry

Typical Education/Experience:

Associate (Level 2)

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 2 or more years’ related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. Master). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

Experienced (Level 3)

Bachelor’s degree and typically 5 or more years’ experience in an engineering classification or a Master’s degree with typically 3 or more years’ experience in an engineering classification or a PhD degree with experience in an engineering classification. Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry. ABET is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

Lead (Level 4)

Bachelor’s degree and typically 9 or more years’ experience in an engineering classification or a Master’s degree with typically 7 or more years’ experience in an engineering classification or a PhD degree with typically 4 or more years’ experience in an engineering classification. Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry. ABET is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

Summary Pay Range (Associate, Level 2): $104,550 – $141,450

Summary Pay Range (Experienced, Level 3): $104,550 – $141,450

Summary Pay Range (Lead, Level 4): $128,350 – $173,650
