Programmer Analyst III

The Office of Graduate and Professional Program at the USC Viterbi School of Engineering is a large academic services unit supporting numerous graduate level programs and offerings for credit and continuing education. This office works with eight engineering departments to provide student services, instructional services, technical support, and student recruitment. The Office of Graduate and Professional Programs additionally offers courses online to remote students via the Distance Education Network (DENViterbi) which supports over 40 Master’s Programs and Continuing Education offerings. There are over 4,000 on campus and online students participating in Masters Programs every year through this office. This position will program and develop complex software applications to enhance web and E- learning technologies for this department. This position will collaborate with researchers, engineers, faculty, and staff to develop new web technologies and develop policies and procedures to support existing technologies. Programmers will also build applications to support the department s core academic and administrative services to support graduate programs. Programmers must possess the required skills listed and be responsible for the following duties Develops and researches new technologies to enhance DENViterbi e-learning services Serves as technical specialist for software applications. Establishes project plans and schedules, identifies resource requirements, and monitors progress providing status reports as required. Serves as primary liaison to functional users of supported systems. Communicates with users to extract and define needs. Develops system definition, architecture and detailed needs analysis including hardware and software recommendations. Converts, or oversees conversion of, user needs into system design specifications (e.g., screens, input methodology, data base structure). Evaluates the design, coding, testing, debugging, installation, documentation and maintenance activities of project. Designs complex applications using coding languages. Establishes and implements user training programs. Follows protocols and procedures to ensure application security. Basic Qualifications Develops application design specifications based on analysisassessment of user needs. Develops, tests, and installs new software applications, and enhances functionality of existing applications. Performs work of moderate complexity, handling most activities individually or under general supervision of senior programming staff. Minimum Education Bachelor’s degree Combined work experience and education as equivalent Minimum Experience 3 years Combined educationexperience as substitute for minimum experience Minimum Field of Expertise Sound knowledge of programming and documentation procedures, programming methods, program flow charts and operator instructions. Knowledge of one or more appropriate computer languages. Competent to work independently on complex programming activities.
