The Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS), Space & Launch Division, is seeking an Lead Systems Engineer Payload Development (Comm & Networks) located in El Segundo, CA. The Space and Launch Team creates the next generation products and services for the BDS business unit. We work with proprietary customers in the development of the next-generation technologies in space.

Position Overview:
As a Systems Engineer on one of these emerging Space and Launch programs, you will evaluate customer/operational needs to define system performance requirements, integrate technical parameters and assure compatibility of all physical, functional and program interfaces for various space based platforms. Digital Engineering and Model Based Systems Engineering will be a key focus in these activities. The ability to work in a collaborative team environment across sites and engineering disciplines to support and execute challenging tasks in a multi-disciplinary environment will be imperative to this on-site role. The selected individual will work in a fast paced, innovative environment where excellent technical, organizational, leadership, written and verbal communications skills are essential.

Position Responsibilities:
Software (Analysis, Test, and Operational) development with MATLAB, C-Sharp, C++, and/or Java

Apply interdisciplinary, collaborative approaches to plan, coordinate, design, develop and verify complex systems solutions

Engage with leads and teammates across engineering disciplines

Use Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) tools to develop systems engineering product such as requirements decomposition, system architecture; specifications, systems engineering and program plans, interfaces, risk assessment and mitigation, validation and verification planning, overall integration, etc.

Define and verify systems requirements and interfaces

Support system-level CONOPS development, functional analysis and decomposition

Perform system-level integration and validation

Support trade studies

Perform system test preparation, execution, troubleshooting, and verification.

Operate independently with general direction and in a team environment.

This position allows telecommuting. The selected candidate will be required to perform some work onsite at the listed location.

The position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a “US Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. § 120.15 is required. “US Person” includes US Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
Bachelor’s, Master’s or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry

5+ years of experience developing and executing scenarios to validate payload software implementation provides subsystem performance

5+ years of experience supporting the resolution of technical issues and ensuring the spacecraft and system solutions are flight worthy prior to delivery

5+ years of experience evaluating customer/operational needs to define system performance requirements, integrating technical parameters and assuring compatibility of physical, functional and program interfaces

5+ years of experience with performing analysis to optimize overall spacecraft architecture

5+ years of experience supporting trade studies to meet program requirements

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
Experience with software coding in C-Sharp and C++

Experience in one or more of the following systems engineering capabilities/skills is a plus:

Experience with analysis tools using MATLAB and object-oriented software platforms

Experience performing analyses and simulations for space communication systems, including: link analysis, signal distortion, system capacity, reliability, and performance

Experience with Matlab/Simulink

Experience using Cameo

Familiarity with model based engineering processes and principles in the design of space based applications

Typical Education/Experience:
Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 9 or more years’ related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+4 years’ related work experience, Master+7 years’ related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
