Boeing Defense, Space, and Security (BDS), Space and Launch Division, is seeking a Lead Satellite Narrowband Payload Systems Engineer to support our team in El Segundo, CA. The Space and Launch Team creates the next generation products and services for the BDS business unit. We work with proprietary customers in the development of the next-generation technologies in space. Our team focuses on rapid prototyping to demonstrate a host of mission-focused technologies for a variety of customers. Our group works all facets of engineering from technology investment, concept development, proposal writing, requirements and design, build, integration, test, and demonstration of products in their relevant environments. Position Overview: The Lead Satellite Narrowband Payload Systems Engineer will lead a high-performing team that are immersed in high intensity, and complex state-of-the-art systems, for space-based applications. As a member of our team, you will have the opportunity to design, develop, and deliver state-of-the-art payloads for space-based applications for civil, Milsatcom, and/or national security programs. This role will lead a highly-motivated team that works with customers on their latest satellite systems. Project assignments typically span over the completion of the program life cycle, from internal trades, concept studies and system definition, to satellite development, launch, and on-orbit operations and test. Primary Responsibilities: Define and develop satellite systems and payload architectures. Lead trade studies. Define and verify space payload system requirements and interfaces. Lead system-level CONOPS development, functional analysis and decomposition. Lead system-level integration and validation. Perform analyses and simulations for space payload systems. Develop analysis tools using MATLAB and object-oriented software platforms. Develop and verify system algorithms that meet functional and performance requirements. Perform hardware procurement, design reviews, and unit sell-off. Lead system test preparation, execution, troubleshooting, and verification. Work Authorization: This position requires an active/current U.S. Security Clearance with a Tier 5 Investigation (T5), formerly known as a Single Scope Background Investigation (SSBI) that has been successfully completed by the federal government within the last 5 years or in a Continuous Evaluation/Continuous Vetting program for the T5/SSBI . (A U.S. Security Clearance that has been active in the past 24 months is considered active). Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience): Bachelor’s Degree or higher from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry . 3+ years of experience with digital payload design, analysis, development, and verification . 5+ years of experience working on Milsatcom narrowband payload systems. Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience): Experience working with Matlab/Simulink and C++. Experience with digital/RF communications hardware and lab equipment. 5+ years of experience in RF, digital, and/or optical communications. Experience working with Digital signal processing (DSP), Waveform design and Antenna theory. Typical Education / Experience: Bachelor’s and 9 or more years’ experience, Master’s with 7 or more years’ experience or PhD with 4 or more years’ experience. Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry.
