Lead Optical Communication Systems Engineer

nnAs a Lead Optical Communications Systems Engineer (Level 4) for our Seal Beach or El Segundo, CA location, you will design, develop, and deliver state-of-the-art Laser communication systems for space-based applications for commercial, civil, milsatcom, and/or national security programs.

You will lead a highly-motivated team that works with domestic or international customers on their latest satellite systems.nn nnProject assignments typically span the complete program life cycle, from internal trades, concept studies and system definition, to development, launch, and on-orbit operations and test.

Candidates will belong to a systems engineering team interacting with customers, suppliers, program management, integration and test engineers, and senior technologists.

This is a 1st shift position.nn nn Position Responsibilities: nn nn Lead the design and architecture development for electro-optical and Laser communications systems nn nnDesign, integrate, and test a variety of electrical and electronic systems in support of Electro-optical and Laser communications systems.nn nnDevelops and validates requirements for unique electro-optical, sensor, Laser and other electromagnetic systems and components.nn nnDevelops and validates electro-optical requirements for electricalelectronic systems, mechanical systems, and interfaces.nn nnPerforms trade studies, modeling, simulation and other forms of analysis to predict performance and to optimize design around complex requirements.nn nnInterface with customers, suppliers, and other stakeholders.nn nnSupport checkout and test of prototype electronics including the ability to debug and troubleshoot electrical and electronics designs.nn nn This position requires an active/current U.S.

Security Clearance Tier 5 Investigation (T5), formerly known as a Single Scope Background Investigation (SSBI) by the federal government within the last 5 years or enrollment in a Continuous Evaluation program such that periodic updates are no longer required (A U.S.

Security Clearance that has been active in the past 24 months is considered active.) nn nn Basic Qualifications (Required skills/experience): nn nnBachelor’s Degree or higher from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry.nn nnExperience with electro-optical systems.nn nnExperience with Communication Systems Engineering (RF and/or Optical).nn nn Preferred Qualifications (Desired skills/experience): nn nnExperience Matlab/Simulink and C++.nn nnExperience in RF and Digital Signal Processing (DSP).nn nnExperience with digital/RF communications hardware and lab equipment.nn nnExperience in leading small/medium-sized projectsnn nn Typical Education & Experience: nn nnEducation/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (eg Bachelor) and typically 9 or more years’ related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (eg PhD+4 years’ related work experience, Master+7 years’ related work experience).
