IoT Network Engineer

Background: The Wayne County Airport Authority (WCAA) has oversight of Detroit Metropolitan (DTW) and Willow Run Airports (YIP).

DTW was dedicated on September 4, 1930, that year Thompson Aeronautical Corporation, a forerunner of American Airlines, began service from the airport.

Wayne County has expanded airport operations over the years to see DTW become Detroit’s large hub airport.

Today Detroit Metropolitan airport supports dozens of airlines and hundreds of destinations and 36M passengers globally.

The Technology Services department of the Wayne County Airport Authority is responsible for providing and managing the Airport Authority’s technology needs for both Detroit Metro and Willow Run airports.

The Technology Services Department is seeking an IoT Network Engineer to work as part of a cross functional team developing a cloud based IoT platform for operational, security, and industrial sensors.

Scope of Services: The Airport Authority is seeking a full-time, qualified IoT Network Engineer who will utilize their knowledge, skills, and abilities to: Q Actively participate in a fluid and collaborative environment with the ability to influence and change the direction of the product.

Q Employ your development skills by delivering innovative features on Linux based IoT appliance(s).

Q Ensure quality and performance through regular reviews, proactive monitoring, and active testing.

Q Provide support for platform-related issues; triage and resolve issues reported by internal teams.

Q Assist with researching, testing and evaluating best-of-breed products for microelectronic hardware to be used to create a smart airport environment by combining operational digital twins at WCAA.

Q Assist with product evaluations, data collection, and solution integrations that collect data at the access control platform or the physical layer.

Q Assist with development and system engineering associated with platform development.

Q Cisco IoT / Cisco Jasper /LoRaWAN /Wi-Fi 6e /5G are the ideal infrastructure technologies WCAA will leverage to build a technology foundation that all other sensors and solutions will be based upon.

Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions Education: Education Level Education Details Req Pref Bachelor’s Degree Computer or Electrical Engineering, or similar field X Masters Degree Computer or Electrical Engineering, or similar field X Qualifications: Experience Details Req Pref 0-10 years total experience, preferably with 3 years recent experience with IoT or similar X 3 years’ experience with Internet of Things (IoT), SCADA or in the industrial or operational sensor space X 2 years’ experience with Programmable Logic Controllers X 1 years’ experience developing commercial software applications X 1 years’ experience developing backend solutions on Linux OS X Firm understanding of Linux fundamentals X Experience developing sensing platforms, with the ability to execute product evaluations, POCs, technology pilots, and system integrations X Experience with communication protocols HiveMQ, EtherNet/IP, OPC UA, WiFi 6e, 5G, GPS, LoRaWAN, etc.

X DoD 8570.1 certification (CompTIA Security or equivalent) X Experience in Agile, Scrum, and/or PMI Methods X Familiar with Software Life Cycle Management (SLCM) and software best practices X Experience working with web-based video, including HTTP-LiveStreaming (HLS), RTSP, WebRTC and MP4 X Experience with cloud solutions and technologies, including IoT, and video annotation and AIExperience in one or more specific IoT / M2M industries, such as home automation, asset tracking, smart sensor technologies, etc.

X Experience building solutions that are capable of high throughput and can scale gracefully X Experience with Linux system administration X Experience with AWS or Azure would be a strong plus X Network Engineer experience preferred X Skills & Competencies: Q Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Q Working knowledge of a variety of hardware sensors and micro-electronics.

Q Be located in SE Michigan or willing to relocate to SE Michigan if offered position.
