The Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) team is seeking a Space Communications Systems Engineer (Level 2, 3, or 4) to join the team in El Segundo, CA. The Space and Launch Team creates the next generation products and services for the BDS business unit. We work with commercial and proprietary customers in the development of the next-generation technologies in space.  Our group works all facets of engineering from technology investment, concept development, proposal writing, requirements and design, performance analysis, build, integration, test, and demonstration of products in their relevant environments.

The selected candidate will be supporting the design, development, and delivery of state-of-the-art communications payload systems for space-based applications for commercial, civil, milsatcom, and/or national security programs. You will interact with customers, suppliers, program management, integration and test engineers, and senior technologists and you will be a part of a highly motivated team with domestic or international customers on their latest satellite systems

Position Responsibilities:

  • Define and develop satellite systems and payload architectures

  • Support trade studies

  • Define and verify space payload system requirements and interfaces

  • Support system-level CONOPS development, functional analysis and decomposition

  • Support system-level integration and validation

  • Perform analyses and simulations for space payload systems

  • Develop analysis tools using MATLAB and object-oriented software platforms

  • Develop and verify system algorithms that meet functional and performance requirements

  • Perform hardware procurement, design reviews, and unit sell-off

  • Perform system test preparation, execution, troubleshooting, and verification

This position is expected to be 100% onsite.  The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at the listed location.

This position requires an active U.S. Secret Security Clearance (U.S. Citizenship Required). (A U.S. Security Clearance that has been active in the past 24 months is considered active)

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor’s, Master’s or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry

  • Experience with RF communications subsystems or units.

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Level 3: 3+ years of work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience 

  • Level 4: 5+ years of work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience 

  • Experience with RF communications analyses

  • Experience with digital/RF communications hardware and lab equipment

  • Experience with satellite payload design, analysis, development, and verification

  • Experience with Digital signal processing (DSP), Waveform design, and Antenna theory

Typical Education/Experience:

Associate (Level 2)

Bachelor’s and 2 or more years’ experience, Master’s degree or PhD degree. Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry. ABET is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

Experienced (Level 3)

Bachelor’s degree and typically 5 or more years’ experience in an engineering classification or a Master’s degree with typically 3 or more years’ experience in an engineering classification or a PhD degree with typically 3 or more years’ experience in an engineering classification. Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry. ABET is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

Lead (Level 4)

Bachelor’s degree and typically 9 or more years’ experience in an engineering classification or a Master’s degree with typically 7 or more years’ experience in an engineering classification or a PhD degree with typically 4 or more years’ experience in an engineering classification. Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry. ABET is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

This position offers relocation based on candidate eligibility.

Summary Pay Range (Associate, Level 2): $87,550 – $118,450

Summary Pay Range (Experienced, Level 3): $104,550 – $141,450

Summary Pay Range (Lead, Level 4): $128,350 – $173,650
