The Boeing Research & Technology (BR&T) Mission Systems & Autonomy (MS&A) software capability is seeking a Senior Space-based Imaging Ground Software Subject Matter Expert in Huntington Beach, CA.

The selected candidate will work with the BR&T Payload Products & Technologies (PP&T) product team focused on the concept, requirements, architecture, design and development of an advanced space-based imaging sensor payloads. The position will involve creating software products for ground system mission processing.

The selected candidate will work with the PP&T product team on providing complete solutions, including systems engineering, optics design, algorithms, software development, firmware development, and electronics. The candidate will work with software product-line owner, program managers, and development leads to create common software products and tailor for use on a portfolio of customer-funded programs.

The successful candidate will work across programs to ensure software products are developed for commonality and tailored to meet mission need. The candidate will work with development leads for ground mission software to ensure engineering excellence and achieve program objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Expert in satellite ground software requirements, architectures, designs, interfaces, technologies
  • Serves as business portfolio and customer focal on ground system mission processing software products
  • Expert in ground mission data processing capabilities to analyze and disseminate data
  • Expert in command and control capabilities for satellite and mission operation
  • Expert in Neptune, Future Operationally Resilient Ground Evolution (FORGE), Advanced Framework for Simulation, Integration and Modeling (AFSIM)
  • Drive satellite ground software product line architecture and strategic reuse across all programs
  • Drive ground software execution to deliver products on-cost and on-schedule to programs.
  • Responsible for ground software safety, assurance, quality, and engineering excellence.
  • Expert with all phases of product and software development lifecycle

This position is hybrid. This means that the selected candidate will be required to perform some work onsite at one of the listed location options. This is at the hiring team’s discretion and could potentially change in the future.

This position requires the ability to obtain an active U.S. Top Secret/SCI Security Clearance (U.S. Citizenship Required) and ability to complete a CI (Counter Intelligence) polygraph after employment start.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience)

  • 10+ years of experience with software development with C, C++, Java or Python
  • 10+ years of experience in developing software in a collaborative team environment using agile principles and a structured development process including code reviews and DevOps processes/tools
  • Experience with software development for space systems and ground segments performing command, control, mission planning and data processing
  • Experience with cloud computing and virtualization technologies (Splunk, Vmware)
  • Experience with cloud containerization (Docker, Kubernetes)
  • Experience automating software builds, unit tests, integration tests, deployment, and installations using a DevOps tool chain (Jenkins, Nexus, Artifactory, etc)

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience): 

  • Active Security Clearance
  • Experience with Neptune, Future Operationally Resilient Ground Evolution (FORGE), Advanced Framework for Simulation, and/or Integration and Modeling (AFSIM)
  • Experience with new product development with small, agile teams on fast-paced, dynamic customer-funded programs
  • Experience with fault tolerant architectures and designs

Typical Education/Experience: Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 14 or more years’ related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+9 years’ related work experience, Master+12 years’ related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

Please note that the salary information shown below is a general guideline only. Salaries are based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.

Summary pay range: $161,500 – $218,500
