This position will work as a Network Monitoring Technician I in the company’s Information Technology department and provide subject matter expertise for the monitoring of network, systems, applications, and general IT infrastructure.Responsibilities include:Designs, builds, implements and administers network, system & application monitoring toolsManages the day-to-day operations of the Network Management System to ensure stability, reliability and availability of applications and services for the businessProvides monitoring and suggests solutions for the monitoring of:Networking technology and connectionsDirectory services such as Active Directory and LDAPMS Exchange/email/messaging systemseCommerce environmentsRemote access infrastructureWireless and mobile devicesOperating system environments such as Microsoft Windows, AIX, and LinuxData backup and storage systemsVOIP systemsVirtual environmentsCritical business servicesCorporate applicationsMaintains monitoring standards for infrastructure componentsExecution and documentation of monitoring processesTroubleshooting and resolution of monitoring issuesReporting of key monitoring KPIs and metricsEvaluates monitoring tools for potential applicationWorks with the Help Desk and Infrastructure teams to implement monitoring and response processesManages call notification and escalation system for alertsAfter hours work, shift work, and on-call pager may be requiredRequirementsRequired or desired skills for this position include:Understanding of networking, systems and application monitoring concepts, principles and best practicesExperience with the use of network and systems management and monitoring tools such as OpenView, Open NMS, Tivoli, etc.Understanding of network routing, switching, TCP/IP addressing design and troubleshootingExperience with Windows and Linux operating systems architectureExperience with SNMP based monitoring and Net-SNMP toolsExperience with design and implementation of large scale network monitoring projectsAbility to develop quantitative, prioritized action plans to address IT related issuesSolid team player with a “can do” attitudeAbility to perform after hours, shift work, and be on call via pager during designated periodsBS Degree in a technical discipline is preferredPhysical RequirementsGeneral office environment requiring ability to:stand, walk, sit for extended periods of timespeak and listen to others in person and over the phoneuse keyboard and read from computer screen and reportslift up to 15 lbs.Safety:The candidate must be able to perform this job safely in accordance with standard operating procedures and good manufacturing practices, without endangering the health or safety of self or others.Supervisory Responsibility:None#LI-RR1About Harbor Freight ToolsIn 1977, Harbor Freight Tools was started as a small family-owned business.
