We are seeking a Ground Software Systems Engineer in Huntington Beach, CA with experience in the development of ground software systems supporting space and airborne platforms. Candidates should have an experience with all phases of software systems development, including creation and tracking of requirements, development software documentation covering architecture, algorithms and interfaces, software configuration management, and development of test and verification plans.
Our team is currently hiring for a broad range of experience levels including Senior and Principal Level Software Systems Engineers.
This position is part of the rapidly growing EO/IR Mission Systems team within BR&T. The EMS team has more than quadrupled in size over the past 18 months due to new contract wins, and continues to see increased demand from Boeing’s customers. We’re designing, building, and testing cutting edge sensor systems for airborne and space platforms. Our focus is always on the mission – connecting people through safer air travel and protection of the warfighter from its adversaries.
This isn’t your typical Boeing team – we are focused on the entire lifecycle of design: from modeling and simulation of new ideas, through prototype demonstrations, and eventually transitioning to production systems. Our team provides complete engineering solutions to Boeing and its customers, including systems engineering, optics design, mechanical design, algorithms, software development, firmware development, electronics, and advanced system modeling and simulations. Position Responsibilities

Applies an interdisciplinary, collaborative approach to lead activities to plan, design, develop and verify complex lifecycle balanced system of systems and system solutions

Oversees and guides the overall ground software system development process and maintains the full set of associated documentation of architecture, algorithms, software and system interfaces including software specification documents, interface control documents (ICDs) and interface description documents (IDDs)

Leads others to evaluate customer/operational needs to define system performance requirements, integrate technical parameters and assure compatibility of all physical, functional and program interfaces

Leads analyses to optimize total system of systems and/or system architecture

Leads analyses for affordability, safety, reliability, maintainability, testability, human systems integration, survivability, vulnerability, susceptibility, system security, regulatory, certification, product assurance and other specialties quality factors into a preferred configuration to ensure mission success

Leads, develops, maintains and identifies improvements for the planning, organization, implementation and monitoring of requirements management processes, software configuration management processes, tools, risk, issues, opportunity management and technology readiness assessment processes

Plans and leads research projects to develop concepts for future product designs to meet projected requirements
This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options.
This position requires an active U.S. Secret Security Clearance (U.S. Citizenship Required). (A U.S. Security Clearance that has been active in the past 24 months is considered active)
Basic Qualifications (Required Skill/Experience):

Bachelor’s, Master’s or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry

Experience in ground system or space system systems engineering, including requirements analysis, design, and operation
Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
-
10+ years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
-
5+ years of experience with software design, development, debugging, and performing software integration, test, validation, and verification
-
Experience writing and managing ground segment software requirements for aerospace and defense applications
-
Experience in developing could-based and containerized architecture for ground software
-
Understanding of CCSDS
-
Experience with FORGE and MDPAF
-
Experience with cyber security including HAIPE encryption
-
Experience applying systems engineering principles during the development of complex ground segment software solutions in support of aerospace and defense applications

Experience providing systems engineering for research and development contracts
-
Experience as a chief engineer or systems engineering IPT lead with weapons design, software avionics/avionics/electrical design, and weapons system architecture
-
Experience working with technical teams either as an Integrated Project Team (IPT) lead or technical SME (Subject Matter Expert) on System Engineering or Software Engineering applications

Experience managing supplier relationships, strategic partnerships and supplier performance
-
Experience managing interfaces with government customer and co-contractor systems
Typical Education/Experience:
Senior (Level 5)
Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 14 or more years’ related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+9 years’ related work experience, Master+12 years’ related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
Principal (Level 6)
Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 20 or more years’ related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+15 years’ related work experience, Master+18 years’ related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard
