Job Description:

This position is Remote. Candidates will be considered based on their qualifications and the candidate’s ability to work from an approved work location.  Although the location is flexible, AEP does not have a presence in all states and localities.  The following locations are NOT currently approved for this position: AK, CO, CT, DE, HI, IA, ID, KS, MA, ME, MS, ND, NH, NJ, NM, NV, NY, OR, RI, SD, UT, VT, WY, US Territories or international work locations. AEP will consider qualified candidates who are willing to relocate to an approved work location, at the candidate’s expense, provided the relocation can be completed within a timeframe that meets AEP’s staffing needs.

The Director sets the strategic direction for and inspires, guides, and develops a team of leaders who are responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining the technology portfolios, services and processes that enable AEP’s business.  The scope of responsibility will include large business systems portfolios, infrastructure (data center or field based) portfolios, or support/operations services.

Essential Job Functions & Tasks:

  • Leads the architecture and engineering of the network for datacenter, enterprise and facilities while partnering with business and other technology teams on energy business solutions across transmission, distribution, renewables, and field mobility functions
  • ​​​​​​Continuously develops and implements ways to improve the network (reliability, quality, security) using best practices and modern technologies
  • Leads the development of roadmaps for strategic network infrastructure plans including working closely with vendors, carriers and internal telecommunications teams
  • Works closely with mainframe teams to develop short and long term strategies for maintaining and managing the mainframe environment
  • Leads the management of a technology or service portfolio.  Plans the technology/service roadmap, delivers the solutions/services, develops processes, engages with partner teams as needed for stability efforts and other improvements, and manages the overall portfolio budget
  • Ensures technology/service projects and maintenance activities are completed on-schedule & with the highest quality and delivers value to AEP operating companies and business units
  • Ensures the proper use of department standards for solution development and maintenance functions, including the adherence to architectural standards, coding/configuration standards, ITIL standards, project/agile management standards, etc.
  • Manages the financial aspects of their portfolio and technology projects.  Collaborates with procurement teams on achieving favorable negotiations with vendor partners.  Focuses on delivering technology solutions/services at the most optimal cost.
  • Develops diverse and inclusive teams (hiring, training, performance management, culture curation) that deliver world-class technology services with a focus on an efficient and intuitive customer experience.
  • Partners with AEP operating companies, business units, internal IT partners and third parties to deliver solutions
  • Fosters continuous improvement through lean leader behaviors and sponsorship of key departmental initiatives to improve customer satisfaction, efficiency, quality, and reliability
  • Ensures staff adheres to all corporate and technology policies and procedures.  These include, but are not limited to, our SDLC, policies related to Architecture, Security, Disaster Recover, NERC-CIP and Sarbanes-Oxley

Requirements

Basic Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, business, or related technical field is required.

An equivalent combination of education and related experience may be considered.

Experience: A minimum of 10 years of relevant work experience, which includes 6 years in leadership, is required.

Physical demand level is Sedentary.
