Boeing Defense, Space, and Security (BDS), Space, Intelligence, and Weapon Systems division, is seeking both a Senior and Lead Ground Systems Engineer – Requirements/Architecture (Level 4/5) to support the team in El Segundo, CA, Huntington Beach, CA, or Fairfax, VA. We work with both commercial and proprietary customers in the development of the next-generation technologies in space.  Our team focuses on rapid prototyping to demonstrate a host of mission-focused technologies for a variety of customers.  Our group works all facets of engineering from technology investment, concept development, proposal writing, requirements and design, build, integration, test, and demonstration of products in their relevant environments.

Position Overview:

The Senior/Lead Ground Systems Engineer will be a part of a high-performing team that are immersed in high intensity development projects. As a member of our team, you will have the opportunity to work proprietary programs being performed for U.S. government customers who are responsible for exciting national security missions. This position will design, build, deploy operate and maintain a wide variety of mission critical platforms and systems for commercial and government customers.   This role will lead in vital systems development and integration and test activities to establish product readiness and creation and operation of a system integration lab (SIL).

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Applies an interdisciplinary, collaborative approach to plan, design, develop and verify a lifecycle balanced system of systems and system solutions.

  • Evaluates customer and /operational needs to define and coordinate system performance requirements, integrate technical parameters and assure compatibility of all physical, functional and program interfaces.

  • Performs various analyses to optimize total system of systems and/or system architecture. Performs analyses for affordability, safety, reliability (FMEA), maintainability, availability, testability, human systems integration, survivability, vulnerability, susceptibility, system security, regulatory, certification, product assurance, system safety and other specialties quality factors into a preferred configuration to ensure mission success.

  • Develops, maintains and identifies improvements the planning, organization, implementation and monitoring of requirements management processes, tools, risk, issues, opportunity management and technology readiness assessment processes.

  • Leads and executes use case, architecture, and requirements development utilizing MBSE.

  • Leads and executes verification and validation of system requirements with proper flowdown and traceability for system, hardware, and software components to include verification, validation, and test plans and schedules, procedures and documentation, execution, and requirements close out.

  • Drives interface development, documentation, and compliance and system integration across hardware and software domains to ensure system success with ground segment.

  • Provides operations support with logistics, supportability and sustainment/maintenance including sparing with operator training and transition procedures, plans and documentation.

  • Ability to support and drive execution of multiple Agile Teams.

  • Works closely with other engineering disciplines in an integrated team environment to develop System and SW build content release.

  • Supports stakeholder needs analysis, technical measure definition, requirements analysis, and allocation & definition for subcontractors, utilizing JIRA and Confluence.

Work Authorization:

This position requires an active/current Top Secret/SCI U.S. Security Clearance with the ability to obtain CI Polygraph. (A U.S. Security Clearance that has been active in the past 24 months is considered active.).

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, or physics.

Level 4

  • 5 years or more of experience in systems engineering, integration and test, and verification and validation.

  • 5 years or more of experience in Model Based Systems Engineering development of use cases, requirements allocation and flowdown, and verification and validation.

  • 5 years or more experience working with cross-functional teams and external customers.

  • 3 years or more experience in technical systems engineering leadership.

  • Experience in ground and space systems.

  • Experience interfacing with senior leadership and customer.

Level 5

  • 8 years or more of experience in systems engineering, integration and test, and verification and validation.

  • 5 years or more of experience in Model Based Systems Engineering development of use cases, requirements allocation and flowdown, and verification and validation.

  • 5 years or more experience working with cross-functional teams and external customers.

  • 3 years or more experience in technical systems engineering leadership.

  • Experience in ground and space systems.

  • Experience interfacing with senior leadership and customer.

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Experience in software coding and troubleshooting.

  • Experience in Systems and software architecture.

  • Experience with Cost Account Management (EVMS).

  • Experience supporting proposal activity for new and follow-on business.

  • Demonstrates success in a highly collaborative cross functional team environment.

  • Experience in development of command and control, mission management and mission processing software systems for ground systems.

  • Experience with Agile.

Typical Education/Experience:

Level 4

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 9 or more years’ related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+4 years’ related work experience, Master+7 years’ related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

Level 5

Bachelor’s degree typically 14 or more years’ experience in an engineering classification or a Master’s degree with typically 12 or more years’ experience in an engineering classification or a PhD degree with typically 9 or more years’ experience in an engineering classification. Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry. ABET is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
