About the role:Essence is seeking a Cloud Engineering & Operations Lead to join our Data & Tech practice. You will be part of a high growth team that sits at the very centre of our business proposition; helping clients harness the power of data to improve the effectiveness of their marketing, and to ultimately drive business growth.You will be asked to provide expert support to teams of analysts, engineers and data scientists across the organization that are looking to use cloud technology to build solutions that organize data, automate processes and help our teams make smarter decisionsThe right candidate will have extensive experience in supporting the infrastructural and operational demands for a variety of challenges our teams face. Whether this is by provisioning services directly, leveraging templating and automation, supporting an existing set of data infrastructure covering aspects of security, resources management, support and maintenance, or, by way of new processes to better govern our use of infrastructure and services at scale.Strong project management and collaboration skills, coupled with extensive knowledge and experience with Cloud technology, are essential. Extensive knowledge of Google Cloud is strongly preferred.Some of the things wed like you to do:Manage and support the use of Cloud services and data platforms across the global organization, with a focus on Google Cloud Platform and AirflowImplement Infrastructure as Code as a standard across the org, using tools such as Terraform and Gitlab CI for automationLeverage automation to facilitate scalable cloud infrastructure managementOwn/define/build essential cloud compliance tools that adhere to our our global governance policiesLead on evolving our cloud governance best practices, promote/enforce new policies, collaborating with key stakeholders and teamsSet and enforce resource provisions and cost management best practices.Foster strong collaboration between globally distributed team membersPartner with IT on the implementation of security and privacy policiesSupport for security and risk management. Engage key stakeholders to drive the assessment and remediation of known vulnerabilities. Implement any necessary policies and procedures to support on-going efforts to secure our cloud assets.Directly drive regular audits/reviews of our cloud infrastructure to ensure our governance and compliance needs are met.Work closely with different specialisms at Essence, including Analytics, Data Engineering, Product Development and Data Strategy, to ensure optimal use of Cloud services and stable infrastructure operationsOversee efforts to drive cloud certifications across the organization A bit about yourself:6-8 years writing clean, well-designed, testable and reusable code in our core language PythonExperience working with Big Data technologies, preferably within Google Cloud.Experience working with ETL solutions such as Apache Beam and Airflow.Use of CICD tools to build and maintain deployment pipelinesUse of SCM i.e Git and platforms such as Github or GitlabExpert in the use of Docker and associated technologies – used to support local development and deployment via CI, as well as used within containerised applications and cloud based servicesExperience with Linux and the Unix ShellExperience with Nginx, HAProxy, Kubernetes, Terraform, or similar technologiesUnderstanding of how the web works. Knowledge of message and communication patterns: AMQP, RPC, GRPC, REST and HypermediaSQL / Database knowledge, relational and non-relational solutionsUnderstanding of SIEM and related tools, knowledge and experience with Google Cloud Security Center is an advantage. Experience providing technical guidance for local and remote development teams, especially regarding cloud infrastructure provisioning, maintenance and securityBe proactive in highlighting debt/risks within our cloud environments, and bring solutions to best address these issuesUse of diagramming solutions covering logical component diagrams, cloud infrastructure diagrams, ERDs, deployment diagrams. Knowledge of other UML diagrams would be advantageous.Experience managing and working with globally distributed teamsIt would be nice:One or more of the following certifications on Google Cloud Platform or similar across other cloud providers:Professional Cloud ArchitectProfessional Cloud DevOps EngineerProfessional Cloud Security EngineerExperience working with distributed data engineering and data science teams
