Find your future with us.Boeing Defense, Space, and Security (BDS), Space and Launch Division, is seeking a Lead Optical Communications Systems Engineer (Level 4) to support the team in Seal Beach, CA.
TheSpace and LaunchTeam creates the next generation products and services for the BDS business unit.
We work with both commercial and proprietary customers in the development of the next-generation technologies in space.
Our teamfocuses on rapid prototyping to demonstrate a host of mission-focused technologies for a variety of customers.
Our group works all facets of engineering from technology investment, concept development, proposal writing, requirements and design, build, integration, test, and demonstration of products in their relevant environments.
Position Overview:The Lead Optical Communications Systems Engineer will be a part of a high-performing team that are immersed in high intensity development projects.
As a member of our team, you will have the opportunity to lead a highly-motivated team that works with domestic or international customers on their latest satellite systems.
This role will focus on designing, developing, and delivering state-of-the-art laser communication systems for space-based applications for commercial, civil, milsatcom, and/or national security programs.
Project assignments typically span over the completion of the program life cycle, from internal trades, concept studies and system definition, to development, launch, and on-orbit operations and test.
Position Responsibilities:Lead the design and architecture development for electro-optical and laser communications systemsDesign, integrate, and test a variety of electrical and electronic systems in support of Electro-optical and laser communications systems.Develops and validates requirements for unique electro-optical, sensor, laser and other electromagnetic systems and components.Develops and validateselectro-optical requirements for electrical Electronic systems, mechanical systems, and interfaces.Performs trade studies, modeling, simulation and other forms of analysis to predict performance and to optimize design around complex requirements.Interface with customers, suppliers, and other stakeholders.Support checkout and test of prototype electronics including the ability to debug and troubleshoot electrical and electronics designs.
Work Authorization:This position requires an active/current U.S.
Security Clearance Tier 5 Investigation (T5), formerly known as a Single Scope Background Investigation (SSBI) by the federal government within the last 5 years or enrollment in a Continuous Evaluation program such that periodic updates are no longer required (A U.S.
Security Clearance that has been active in the past 24 months is considered active.).
Basic Qualifications (Required skills/experience):Bachelor’s Degree or higher from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry.1 year or more of experience with electro-optical systems.Experience working with Communication Systems Engineering (RF and/or Optical).
Preferred Qualifications (Desired skills/experience):Experience working with Matlab/Simulink and C++.Experience in RF and digital signal processing (DSP).Experience with digital/RF communications hardware and lab equipment.Experience in leading small/medium-sized projects.
Typical Education & Experience:Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.G.
Bachelor) and typically 9 or more years’ related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.G.
PhD+4 years’ related work experience, Master+7 years’ related work experience).
In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
